Sync cameras by picture

No shared sound? Eddie can sync multicam cameras by what they see — motion, flashes, cuts — and proposes offsets for you to review before anything changes.

Two cameras, one moment — synced by audioCam A (wide)10s → 20sCam B (close-up, started 2.5s later)12.5s → 22.5sonce synced, “cut to the close-up on the punchline” never drifts

If your cameras have no shared sound — the audio is missing, noisy, or different on every camera — Eddie can sync them by picture instead: it matches what the cameras see (motion, flashes, light changes, cuts) rather than what they heard. It's one of the ways to sync your cameras.

Sync by picture never runs automatically. You start it, Eddie proposes an offset for each camera, and nothing changes until you apply it.

Before you roll

Make two claps or two flashes a few seconds apart, in view of every camera. That gives Eddie a clear moment every camera can see. Without one, it may refuse to sync.

Sync your cameras by picture

  1. Open your project from your projects page.
  2. Ask Eddie in chat. For every camera that isn't in a group yet: "Sync my cameras by picture." For one camera: "Sync camB by picture with the interview group."
  3. Eddie tells you the estimated credits and starts the check. It takes a few minutes, and Eddie tells you when the result is ready.

Review, then apply

Each camera comes back with one of three answers:

  • Synced — a strong match.
  • Check this sync — a match on motion alone. Look at it before you apply.
  • The reason Eddie couldn't sync it — see below.

If a camera already has an offset that's more than 2 frames different, choose Keep the current offset or Use the picture offset.

The result also shows in the Sync by picture panel at the bottom of the project sidebar. Select Apply to add the cameras, or Discard to throw the result away — or tell Eddie in chat. Nothing changes before you apply, and your existing edits stay as they are.

What it costs

Credits for the minutes of video checked, on the same rate as Sync all my cameras. You're charged only when at least one camera syncs. A result you discard is still charged. A check that syncs nothing costs nothing. See How credits work.

When Eddie can't sync a camera

Eddie refuses rather than guesses. If the cameras share no clear visible moment, it says:

These cameras don't share a clear moment we can see. Add two claps or flashes a few seconds apart in view of every camera, or set the offset by hand.

To set the offset by hand, tell Eddie where one shared moment happens on each camera — "the clap is at 12.4s on camA and 9.5s on camB" — and it builds the group from that.

Honest limits

  • It needs a moment every camera can see. Static shots with nothing changing give Eddie nothing to match.
  • Up to 50 cameras and 8 hours of video per check. Group some cameras first, then sync the rest.
  • It only proposes. You review every camera and apply the result yourself.
