Import from Google Drive
Pull footage straight from Google Drive into a project — pick files with Google's own picker, or paste a shared link, and Eddie transfers everything server-side.
Google Drive is the fastest way into Eddie when your footage already lives in the cloud — nothing downloads to your machine, and the transfer keeps running even if you close the tab.
Two ways to import
Pick files with Google's picker. On the import screen, click Google Drive. Sign in when Google asks, then pick files — or a whole folder. Eddie only gets access to the items you pick, not your whole Drive.
Paste a shared link. If Google's picker won't load in your browser (some browsers block the third-party cookies it needs), Eddie automatically offers a paste-a-link box instead. Paste a Drive link to a shared file or folder — it must be set to Anyone with the link — and Eddie resolves the files through its own backend, no Google sign-in needed.
Either way, press Import and Eddie pulls the files server-side, then runs transcription and analysis like any other import. You can close the tab; the transfer doesn't depend on your browser.
Folders
Both methods handle folders, including subfolders. Eddie scans the folder, lists every media file it found, and shows the count before you commit. Imports are capped at 1,000 files — if a folder holds more, Eddie tells you the real number rather than silently importing part of it.
What gets skipped
- Google-native documents (Docs, Sheets, Slides) aren't media and are listed as skipped with a reason — never silently dropped.
- Camera RAW that needs a vendor SDK — REDCODE RAW (.r3d), Blackmagic RAW (.braw) and Canon Cinema RAW Light (.crm) can't be read by a cloud import. Make proxies or optimized media in your NLE and import those, or use the desktop app for RAW workflows. See Working with RAW footage.
Good to know
- Big folders import at a measured pace. Drive rate-limits accounts that download too many files at once, so Eddie transfers a few files at a time per project. A large folder shows some files as queued while others move — that's normal, not stuck.
- Very popular or very large shared files can hit Drive's own download quota. Google temporarily blocks downloads of a shared file that has seen too much traffic. Eddie retries with backoff, but if Drive keeps refusing you'll see a "rate limited — try again in a bit" style error rather than a permissions error. Waiting a while (sometimes a day, on heavily-shared files) and retrying usually clears it.
- Cloud imports are billed on measured footage length. Durations aren't known until the files are processed, so the cost shows as pending at pick time and settles once the footage is measured.
Troubleshooting
- "That link isn't shared publicly" — the file or folder isn't set to Anyone with the link. Change its sharing in Drive, or use Google's picker to import from your own account instead.
- The Google picker never appears — your browser is likely blocking third-party cookies. Use the paste-a-link box Eddie offers, which needs none of that.
- Connection fails entirely — disconnect and reconnect Google Drive from the Integrations screen, then try the import again. Still stuck? See Connect cloud storage.
- An import sits in processing for a long time — see Import stuck or failed.
