The desktop app is Eddie on your Mac or Windows computer. Sign in with the same account you use on the web, import footage from this machine, ask for a cut, and export it. Files on this computer play from the originals while Eddie transcribes and logs them.

The sign-in window names the four steps: Sign in, Import footage, Edit, Export.

1. Install and sign in

  1. Download the app: Mac (Apple silicon), Intel Mac or Windows.
  2. Open it. The screen says Sign in or create your account.
  3. Enter the email you already use on the web. Eddie emails a 6-digit code. Type the code to finish.
  4. Or choose Continue with Google, or Sign in with your company account (SSO).

Workspaces, projects and credits are the same on the web and in the app. If they look wrong just after you sign in, sign out and sign in again. Still wrong? See Contact support.

Install details are in Install the desktop app.

2. Import your footage

On the home screen, drag video, audio or stills onto the drop zone, or click the zone to browse. Start with the source footage from one shoot: an interview, a podcast, a talking head or a multicam recording. Give Eddie the rushes, so it has room to choose.

You can also start from an editor on this computer. The app installs the Premiere panel and the Resolve script for you. See Get the Eddie AI extension for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.

  • Premiere Pro shows the bins in the Premiere project open on this computer.
  • DaVinci Resolve shows the media pool in the Resolve project open on this computer.
  • Final Cut Pro appears on a Mac. Select the clips or the project in Final Cut and drag them into Eddie. A .fcpxml file can be dropped on the zone on Mac or Windows.
  • Avid Media Composer imports from an open bin when the chip shows beta. On other accounts the chip joins the waitlist.
  • Cloud storage opens Dropbox, Google Drive, Frame.io and iconik. LucidLink is in that list when your account has it.

Blackmagic Cloud and Premiere Productions start the project on the web. The chip explains that hand-off. See Work in your DaVinci Resolve cloud project with Eddie and Bring Eddie into your Premiere Productions.

Blackmagic BRAW, and RED R3D when REDCINE-X is installed, import directly. Canon and Sony RAW come in through proxies. See RAW footage and codecs.

More detail: Import your footage and Import from Premiere, Final Cut or Resolve.

3. Ask for a first cut

When the import finishes, Eddie opens the project. Ask in plain words, and name a length:

"Build a rough cut from these interviews. Pull the strongest answers from each speaker and put them in an order that tells a clear story. Aim for about 3 minutes."

Play the cut from the top. To change it, keep talking: "start on the second question", "drop the section about pricing", "remove the long pauses". Each prompt changes the same edit.

Each run spends credits, and a finished run shows what it cost. See How credits and billing work.

More detail: Make your first AI edit and How to prompt Eddie well.

4. Export the cut

Open Export in the project.

  • Send to Premiere Pro and Send to DaVinci Resolve build the timeline in that editor on this computer.
  • Final Cut Pro downloads an FCPXML file you open in Final Cut.
  • Video file renders an MP4 on this computer, with no length cap and no daily quota. See Render a finished MP4.

Footage imported in the desktop app links to the original files on this machine.

More detail: Export to Premiere, Final Cut, Resolve, Avid and OTIO.

Already started on the web

On the web project, open Export and choose Open in Eddie app. The desktop app opens that same project for the account you are signed into. If the app is not installed yet, Eddie asks you to install it first. See Open a project in the desktop app.
