Blur or hide part of your video

Ask Eddie to blur, pixelate or cover a face, a license plate, a name or a logo. It is free. It shows in the player and the MP4, not in timeline exports.

Eddie can hide part of the picture: a face, a license plate, a name on screen, a logo or a document. It covers a box in the frame with a blur, pixelation or a solid color.

How to ask

Tell Eddie what to hide, and when it is on screen. For example:

  • "Blur the license plate in the second clip."
  • "Hide the name on screen at 0:42."
  • "Pixelate the logo on his shirt."
  • "Cover the email address on the laptop with black."

Eddie looks at the frames, places the box, and tells you what it covered. Check it in the player. To change it, ask again: "make the blur bigger", or "remove the blur from the first clip".

Pick a style

  • Blur — the default. A strong smear, good for a face in a wide shot. A blur can in principle be undone, so do not use it for something that must stay secret.
  • Pixelate — large blocks of color. The detail inside each block is gone.
  • Fill — a solid color, black unless you name another. Nothing of the original is left. Use fill for text — names, plates, screens, documents. A few recovered letters can be enough to read text, so a blur is not safe there.

In the player, a pixelated box previews as a blur. The MP4 shows the real pixelation.

Limits

  • The box does not move. Eddie does not track faces or objects. For a subject that moves, ask for a bigger box, or for several boxes one after the other.
  • Main clips only. Eddie can hide part of your main footage, not part of a b-roll clip on top of it.
  • Up to 24 boxes on one clip, each with its own start and end time.
  • The player and the MP4 only. Timeline exports — Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid and OTIO — link your original camera files, so the area is not hidden there. When you need a file with the area hidden, export an MP4.

Share links and review links hide the same areas. So does the preview card a link shows in Slack, iMessage or an email. The hover preview over the scrub bar is left out on those clips.

On a review link that has no MP4 of the current cut yet, each box stays on for its whole clip.

Cost

Hiding part of the picture costs no credits. A prompt run that adds it is billed like any other run.
