Edit by hand: trim clips and cut words from the transcript
Trim and move clips on the timeline, split or delete a clip, delete words from an edit, and fix a misheard word, without writing a prompt.
You do not have to prompt Eddie for every change. These are the changes you can make by hand in an edit. Each one saves by itself, and each needs edit access to the project.
On the timeline
Open the edit and select Timeline.
- Move a clip. Drag it along V1. The other clips close up around it, and nothing is removed. On a b-roll lane, a dropped clip covers the b-roll under it.
- Trim a clip. Drag its left or right edge. On V1 the clips after it move up or back, so no gap opens, and a readout shows the new length while you drag.
- Trim by the frame. Click an edge of a clip on V1, then press the left or right arrow to move it one frame. Hold Shift to move it one second.
- Split or delete a clip. Right-click the clip and select Split Clip or Delete Clip. With several clips selected, the menu deletes them all.

In the edit's transcript
In the Player view, the edit's lines are listed beside the player.
- Move a line. Drag it by its grip.
- Delete words. Click a word to select it. Shift-click, or drag across words, to select a run. Then press Delete or Backspace, or select Delete in the bar that appears. The words are cut from this edit only. The transcript and your other edits keep them.
- Bring words back. Select the deleted words and select Restore.
- Undo. Press Cmd+Z (Mac) or Ctrl+Z (Windows) to undo the last word edit.
Deleting words is free. It does not start a prompt run.
Build a cut from nothing
To choose every line yourself, use the two-column paper edit. See Build a cut by hand: the paper edit.
Fix a word the transcript got wrong
Deleting words does not change the transcript. To correct a misheard word, such as a name, ask Eddie: "It's Zahra, not Sarah." Eddie changes the word everywhere in that clip's transcript and keeps the timing. Captions that use the transcript change too. See Transcripts and speakers.
When a prompt is faster
Some changes are quicker to describe: "move the answer about pricing to the start", "add half a second before her first line", "cut the false start in the third clip". The tools Eddie uses for these are free. The prompt run itself is billed like any other run. See How credits and billing work.
Go back
To undo more than the last change, open the ⋮ menu on the edit in the sidebar and select Version history. See Recover a deleted edit.
Limits
- The phone layout shows the player only. Hand editing needs a wider window.
- The transcript's search box has Replace buttons. Use them to find text, not to correct the transcript. To correct a word, ask Eddie.
