Refining clips with ✨ spark
Hover any clip on the timeline and click ✨ to change just that clip — reframe it, cover it with b-roll, or refine several selected clips at once.
Most of the time you steer Eddie from the chat. But when you want to change one specific shot, you can prompt it right on the timeline — no need to describe which clip you mean.
The ✨ on a clip
Switch an edit to the timeline view and hover any clip. A small ✨ button appears in its top-right corner. Click it and a compact prompt box opens, scoped to just that clip. Tell Eddie what you want:
- "Zoom in on her face."
- "Punch in a bit and steady this shot."
- "Use a later take of this line."
Only that clip changes — the rest of your timeline stays exactly as it is. It's the fastest way to fix one moment without re-running the whole cut.
Refine several clips at once
Select more than one clip first — Shift-click a range or Cmd/Ctrl-click to pick clips individually — then click the ✨ on any selected clip. The button shows a count (for example ✨ 3), and your prompt applies to all the selected clips together:
"Punch in slightly on all of these."
One instruction, every selected clip updated the same way.
Cover A-roll with b-roll
You can also use ✨ to hand a stretch of talking-head footage to b-roll. Select the A-roll clips you want covered, spark them, and ask:
"Cover these with b-roll."
Eddie places cutaways over the selection while your audio keeps playing underneath — the same b-roll it adds from a chat prompt, but aimed exactly where you pointed. See Add b-roll for how b-roll works.
When it's available
The ✨ shows up on a real edit's timeline — the cut you're refining — not on raw source footage, where there's nothing yet to change. If you don't see it, open an edit and switch to the timeline view, then hover a clip.
How it fits with chat
Spark and chat edit the same cut, so mix them freely: rough out the story and big passes in chat, then use ✨ for the pinpoint fixes — "this one shot, tighter." For briefing Eddie well in either place, see How to prompt Eddie well.
