Import from Dropbox
Import footage from Dropbox by pasting a shared link or connecting your account — Eddie transfers the files server-side, folders included.
Dropbox imports pull footage straight into Eddie without a download-and-reupload round trip — and the transfer runs server-side, so you can close the tab once it starts.
Two ways to import
Paste a shared link. On the import screen, click Dropbox. Paste a Dropbox shared link — a single file or a whole shared folder. Eddie resolves the link, lists the media files it found, and imports the ones you confirm.
Connect your account. In the same dialog, choose Connect Dropbox to open Dropbox's own file chooser and pick video or audio files from your account directly — useful for files you haven't shared with a link.
Press Import and Eddie pulls each file server-side, then runs transcription and analysis like any other import.
Folder links
A shared folder link works: Eddie walks the folder (subfolders included), lists every media file, and shows you what it found before you commit. Imports are capped at 1,000 files per import.
What gets skipped
- Non-media files in a shared folder are left out of the list, with the skips reported — never silently dropped.
- Camera RAW that needs a vendor SDK — REDCODE RAW (.r3d), Blackmagic RAW (.braw) and Canon Cinema RAW Light (.crm) can't be read by a cloud import. Make proxies or optimized media in your NLE and import those, or use the desktop app. See Working with RAW footage.
Good to know
- Large batches import at a measured pace. Dropbox throttles heavy download traffic, so Eddie transfers a few files at a time per project. Files waiting their turn show as still processing — that's the pacing, not a stall.
- Cloud imports are billed on measured footage length. Durations aren't known until the files are processed, so the cost shows as pending at pick time and settles once the footage is measured.
- Pasted a Google Drive, iconik or LucidLink link into the Dropbox box by mistake? Eddie detects the provider from the link and routes it correctly anyway.
Troubleshooting
- "That link isn't shared publicly" — the link is restricted. In Dropbox, set the shared link so anyone with the link can view, or use Connect Dropbox to import from your account instead.
- Connection fails entirely — disconnect and reconnect Dropbox from the Integrations screen, then try the import again. Still stuck? See Connect cloud storage.
- An import sits in processing for a long time — see Import stuck or failed.
