Bring a Premiere, Final Cut or Resolve timeline into Eddie
Eddie imports footage, not project files. Bring a Premiere sequence or Final Cut project through the desktop app, or use your edit as a reference.
Eddie edits footage. It does not open project files from other editing apps. There are three ways to bring the work you already have into Eddie.
What does not work
A project or timeline file is not footage. If you drop one on the web import page, Eddie refuses it and lists it with the reason:
- A Final Cut XML (
.fcpxml): "A Final Cut XML describes an edit, not media". - Other project files, such as a Premiere
.prproj, a Resolve.drp, an EDL or an AAF: "Not a video, audio or image file".
Eddie cannot open a Final Cut library either. Bring clips or a project out of it, as below.
1. Bring a sequence in as footage, through the desktop app
The Eddie desktop app connects to your editing app. See Import from Premiere, Final Cut or Resolve to set it up.
- Premiere Pro. When you import from Premiere Pro in the desktop app, you can pick a sequence as well as clips.
- Final Cut Pro. Drag clips or a project from the Final Cut browser onto the main import screen of the desktop app. The drag does not work on the web, or in the desktop app's Add media window.
Eddie takes a sequence or a project in as one piece of footage. You cut from it like any other clip.
When an edit uses only sequences you imported from Premiere Pro, Send to Premiere Pro in the desktop app's Export menu builds the edit in Premiere against your original sequence.
2. Export a video file and import it
This works everywhere, the web included. In your editing app, export the timeline as a video file, then import that file. In Final Cut Pro: select the clips or project, then File ▸ Share ▸ Master File. ProRes 422 Proxy is enough.
3. Give Eddie your edit as a reference
To have Eddie copy the pacing or structure of a cut you made, upload the edit file to the Backgrounder as a Reference edit. It takes FCPXML, OTIO and Premiere XML. Eddie reads the shape of the edit, not its footage. Adding a reference edit costs 10 credits.
