Use Eddie from Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or any MCP client

Eddie is built on MCP (Model Context Protocol). This means you can use Eddie from Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or any other MCP client. You add Eddie once as a connector. Then you ask your AI chat for an edit, and Eddie does the work in your Eddie projects.

You do not install a separate Eddie app for this. One connector URL works in every client. Every client sees the same projects, the same footage and the same credits.

Connect

Every client needs the same two things. The first is the connector URL:

The second is your Eddie account. When the client asks you to sign in, a sign-in page opens at auth.heyeddie.ai. Sign in with the same account that you use in the web app.

After you connect, ask for an edit: "List my Eddie projects", or "Cut project X down to a 2-minute highlight and add captions."

Claude (claude.ai on the web and the Claude desktop app)

1. Open Customize → Connectors.
2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
3. Type a name, for example "Eddie AI". Paste the connector URL. Click Continue, then Add.
4. Click Connect next to the connector, and sign in to Eddie.
5. In a chat, open the tools menu and make sure Eddie is on.

This works on every Claude plan, including Free (Free allows one custom connector). On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector first in Organization settings → Connectors. Then you open Customize → Connectors, find Eddie (it has a Custom label) and click Connect.

Claude Code

Run this command in your terminal:

To use Eddie in all your projects, add --scope user after add. Then:

1. Start Claude Code and type /mcp.
2. Select eddie, choose Authenticate, and sign in to Eddie in the browser window that opens.

ChatGPT

You need a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu. Free ChatGPT cannot add a custom connector.

1. Open Settings → Apps & Connectors (on some accounts the menu is called Connectors or Apps).
2. Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode.
3. Create a new connector (the button is Create or Add custom connector). Type a name, paste the connector URL, and choose OAuth for authentication.
4. Sign in to Eddie when ChatGPT asks.
5. In a chat, open the + menu, choose Developer mode, and turn on Eddie.

ChatGPT moves these menus often. If you cannot find where to add a connector, look for Developer mode first.

Codex

Update Codex to the latest version. Then run these commands in your terminal:

codex mcp login eddie

Sign in to Eddie in the browser window that opens. The Codex CLI and the Codex IDE extension share this setting, so you add Eddie only once.

Cursor

Add Eddie to your Cursor mcp.json file. To open the file, go to Cursor Settings → Tools & MCP (in older versions, MCP) and click New MCP Server. Add this, then save the file:

Back in Tools & MCP, click Connect (or Needs login) next to eddie, and sign in to Eddie.

Any other MCP client

Add a remote MCP server with the connector URL. Eddie uses the Streamable HTTP transport and signs you in with OAuth, so you do not need an API key. If your client can only start local servers, use a bridge such as mcp-remote: npx mcp-remote https://mcp.heyeddie.ai/api/mcp.

If Eddie stops working or asks you to sign in again

Eddie sign-in now opens at auth.heyeddie.ai. This is expected. It is Eddie's own sign-in page. A connector that you added before October 15, 2026 can fail to sign in, or can stop working with an error. To fix it, connect again:

1. Press Connect or Reconnect next to Eddie in your client, if you see it. Sign in with the same Eddie account as before.
2. If that does not work, remove the Eddie connector and add it again with the same connector URL:
   • Claude: Customize → Connectors → Eddie → Disconnect or Remove. Then add it again as above.
   • Claude Code: type /mcp, select eddie, and choose Re-authenticate. Or run claude mcp remove eddie and add it again.
   • ChatGPT: Settings → Apps & Connectors → Eddie → disconnect or delete it. Then create it again as above.
   • Codex: run codex mcp logout eddie, then codex mcp login eddie.
   • Cursor: Cursor Settings → Tools & MCP → turn eddie off and on again, or click Connect. If that fails, remove it from mcp.json and add it again.
3. Sign in with the same Eddie account that you use in the web app. A different account shows different projects and credits.

Your projects, footage and credits do not change when you reconnect.

Tools seem missing or old? MCP clients keep a copy of the tool list. Disconnect and reconnect the connector to get the current tools.

What the connector can do

Most of what Prompt Eddie can: read transcripts, build and refine cuts, add b-roll, captions, titles, motion graphics and sound effects, place music from your workspace's music shelf with auto-ducking, switch multicam angles, reframe for vertical, color grade, and export — timeline files or a finished MP4 with a download link.

A few generation tools stay in the app: generating new music, AI voice-over and AI b-roll isn't available through the connector. Do those in the web app and they're in the same project when you come back to your chat. See Generate with Eddie.

Your chat client cannot upload your own video files. Add footage in Eddie first. See Add your own footage when you work from Claude or ChatGPT.

The tools are identical whichever client you connect from. What differs is the assistant driving them, so the two can word things differently or take a different route to the same edit — the edit itself lands in the same place either way.

Good to know

• Same projects, same credits. Work started in a chat shows up in the web app and vice versa — including work started in a different chat client. You can begin a cut in one and finish it in the other.
• Reconnect after updates. If a tool seems missing or behaves oddly, disconnect and reconnect the connector. See If Eddie stops working or asks you to sign in again.
