Where an import's outcome lives
Where to see which files a failed or partial import did not bring in, what each message means, and what to do next.
When an import does not bring in every file, Eddie says so in the places below. Nothing is dropped silently: each file that did not arrive is named, with the reason.
Where to look
- The end of the import. When the import finishes with some files missing, the import page shows a box titled N files aren't in your project (or 1 file isn't in your project). It says "The rest of your import is ready", lists each file with its reason, and has a Continue to my project button. The box is on that page only, so read it before you continue.
- The bell in the project. Open the project and click the bell in the header (Latest activity). Under This project, a failed import is one row: Couldn't import 3 files (or Couldn't import and the file's name), a few file names, the reason, and a line such as "3 of 5 files imported". If there are more names than fit, Show all N failed files lists every one. This row stays there after you leave the import page.
- Your projects page. An import that failed as a whole keeps a card in the In progress section, titled Import failed, with the reason under the project name. It stays until you dismiss it. If you cancelled the import yourself, the card reads Import cancelled instead.
- Ask Eddie. Eddie reads the same per-file report whenever it lists your project's sources. Ask "which files did not import?" and it answers from the report, with the reasons.
What the messages mean
- N files aren't in your project, or Couldn't import N files. Those files did not arrive. The rest of the import is in the project.
- N of M files imported. The count of files that did arrive against the files in the import.
- Imported with a note. A different row, with its own wording. The file is in your project. The note says something to check, for example that a separate sound recorder did not join its cameras. It is not a failure and does not count as one.
- Import failed. The whole import failed, not just some files. Credits charged for it are refunded automatically; check your credit history.
- Waiting on N files that stopped making progress. An import still running is stuck on a few files. You can keep waiting, or select Continue without these files. The files you skip are listed in the import report and can be added again later.
What to do next
- Read the reason. Eddie shows the reason the import recorded for that file and does not reword it.
- If the row has Add these files again, the reason is one that adding the file again can fix. The link opens Add media for the same project. Your own copies are untouched, so add them again there.
- If the row says Re-importing these files as-is won't help, the file itself is the problem. Export a fresh copy of the file from your recorder or editing software, then add that copy. Import stuck or failed covers the usual causes, including the Google Drive download limit.
- If some files are fine to add again and others are not, the row says so: "Re-importing won't help for all of them — see the reasons above."
- If a file looks healthy and keeps failing, contact support with the project name and the file names from the row.
