Bleep a word, a name or swearing

Ask Eddie to bleep or silence chosen words, every swear word, or a stretch of time. It is free. It is heard in the player and the MP4, and the captions read [bleep]. Timeline exports do not carry it.

Eddie can cover spoken words with a bleep tone, or with silence, while the picture plays on. Use it for a name, a number, a patient identifier or a swear word.

How to ask

Tell Eddie what to cover. For example:

  • "Bleep the swearing."
  • "Bleep his surname every time he says it."
  • "Bleep 'account number 4 5 3 2'."
  • "Silence 1:12 to 1:15, no beep."

Eddie finds the words in the transcript, covers every time the edit plays them, and tells you how many it found. Play it back to check. To take one back, ask: "remove the bleep at 0:42", or "remove all the bleeps".

What you hear

  • A tone — the default. A 1 kHz beep at about the level of the speech.
  • Silence — the voice drops out, with no beep.

Only the speech from your clips is covered. Music, voice-over and sound effects keep playing.

Captions

A covered word reads [bleep] in the captions ([muted] for silence), in the player, the MP4 and caption files. Remove the bleep and the word comes back.

Limits

  • Eddie finds words in the transcript. A word the transcript spelled differently, or missed, cannot be found by name. Give the time instead: "bleep 0:42 to 0:43".
  • Each word gets a little extra time on both sides, because transcript timings are close but not exact.
  • Up to 200 bleeps per edit, each up to 5 minutes long.
  • The player and the MP4 only. Timeline exports (Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid and OTIO) link your original camera audio, so the words are heard there. When you need a file where the words cannot be heard, export an MP4. An MP4 you exported before the bleep does not change: export it again.

Cost

Bleeping costs no credits. A prompt run that adds it is billed like any other run.
