Can Eddie clone a voice or make a talking avatar from a photo?

Eddie doesn't currently offer voice cloning, custom voice matching, or lip-synced talking avatars from a photo — voice-over uses a set of built-in voices instead.

Short answer

Eddie's voice-over tool lets you generate narration from a script using a set of built-in voices, but it doesn't currently support cloning a specific person's voice, nor does it animate a photo into a lip-synced talking avatar. If you're looking for either of those specifically, they aren't available yet.

What voice-over does support

On the VO lane of the timeline, you can write a script (or have Eddie draft one), preview a selection of built-in voices, and generate narration in the voice you pick. See Music, voice-over and audio and Generate with Eddie for the full workflow, including dubbing an edit's existing dialogue into another language with Dub your edit into another language.

If you want a presenter on screen without filming one

There's no built-in tool that takes a still photo and animates it to speak your script with lip sync. If you need a face on screen, the practical path today is to add a photo to your project — a clear, front-facing portrait, of someone whose likeness you have the rights to use — and ask Eddie to animate it as a motion graphic or treat it as an image overlay timed to your narration, rather than expecting a true talking-avatar render. This is a workaround, not a dedicated feature, so expect a simpler result than a purpose-built avatar tool.

What to do instead

  • For narration, use the built-in voice-over voices and iterate on the script — drafting is free, and you only pay when you generate.
  • For your own voice specifically, record it yourself and import the audio file as a source — see Use your own voice recording as a voice-over.
  • If a specific custom voice or talking-avatar capability is a hard requirement for your workflow, let support know what you're trying to do.
