Subclips and picking the best parts of a clip
Eddie logs the usable sections of every clip at import — and can cut your b-roll into subclips on demand, from your own guidance about what to look for.
There's no separate "review every clip" mode to toggle on in Eddie — the equivalent happens automatically at import, and when you want actual cut subclips in your library, you ask for them.
What already happens automatically
When footage is imported, Eddie logs it in the background — see What logging is, and why you would want logs. For B-roll, each clip's log includes a description of what's on screen, its shot type, the themes it touches, and the sections of it that are actually usable. For A-roll (interviews), the log is a per-interview outline with timestamped sections.
Generate b-roll subclips on demand
When you want your b-roll library cut into specific moments — not whole files — tell Eddie what to look for:
"Generate b-roll subclips of the smooth aerial shots." "Cut subclips of every close-up of the product, locked-off shots only."
Your guidance is the selection rubric, not a style hint — "smooth moving aerials" and "static shots only" select opposite clips, so Eddie won't run without it. Before doing anything, Eddie quotes the cost from your sources' real durations; a re-run with the same guidance is recognized and free. The matching moments are cut into your b-roll library as subclips — nothing is placed on the timeline until you ask. A run that fails is refunded automatically; a run that genuinely matched nothing is an answer, not a failure.
Stock footage you've imported is metered the same as your own footage here (stock search and stock import stay free).
Steer edits with the same judgement
You don't need subclips to get selective edits — prompts read the logs directly:
- "Use only the usable parts of this b-roll clip — skip anything blurry."
- "Pull the strongest soundbites from each interview and put them in order."
And once clips are in a cut, drag a subclip's handles on the timeline to ripple-trim it by hand.
