Use your own After Effects and Premiere motion graphics templates
Upload your .mogrt, .aep or .aepx templates to a Backgrounder folder. Eddie processes them, tells you when they are ready, and places them in your edits when you ask.
You can bring your own motion graphics templates into Eddie and use them in your edits. Eddie accepts:
- .mogrt: a Motion Graphics template from After Effects or Premiere Pro
- .aep and .aepx: an After Effects project
Eddie converts what it can into its own editable motion graphics. A design it cannot convert is rendered with After Effects instead, and keeps its transparency.
Import a template
- Open the Backgrounder and choose a folder, for example one folder per client.
- In the folder, go to Motion graphics. Click Choose templates, or drop the files there. Each file can be up to 1 GB.
- Keep the tab open until the upload finishes. Processing then continues without you.
- In your project, open the Backgrounder row in the sidebar and tick that folder. Eddie uses only the templates in folders attached to the project.
Importing a template is free.
Add the template's own files as a ZIP
An After Effects project usually links to images, logos, video or audio that are not inside the project file. A .mogrt can hold its graphics, but it does not always hold its fonts or plugins. To include the linked files:
- In After Effects, choose File > Dependencies > Collect Files.
- ZIP the collected folder. Keep its folders and filenames.
- On the template's card in the library, click Attach collected assets and choose the ZIP.
Use one ZIP for each template.
While it processes
- A template can take a few minutes. A large one can take up to a few hours.
- The card says how long it has been working. You can leave the page: processing continues.
- When it is done, you get a notification in Eddie. It opens the library on the template's folder.
- If it took more than a couple of minutes, you also get an email when the template is ready, or when it needs a missing font or file from you. You can turn these emails off with the Footage imported setting in your email preferences.
When the template is ready, its card lists each composition it found and says which ones are ready. Its Available to Eddie box is ticked, so Eddie can use them. Untick it to hide the template from Eddie.
Use it in an edit
Open a project that uses the folder, and ask Eddie by name:
- "Add the Name card lower third when the speaker first appears."
- "Add the Logo sting graphic at the start, with the text 'Season two'."
You can also try changes in the library first. A composition rendered with After Effects has Preview changes, which shows your text and colour changes before you use them in an edit.
If a graphic is rendered with After Effects, changing its text or colours makes a new render. A graphic that Eddie converted to its own motion graphics needs no new render.
What it costs
- Importing a template is free.
- Renders: each workspace gets 20 free renders each day (the day resets at midnight UTC). After that, each new render costs 100 credits. Eddie tells you the price and waits for you to agree before it charges.
- Reusing a render you already made is free. So is placing a graphic with no changes.
- A render that fails is not charged: a paid render is refunded automatically, and a free render goes back to your free renders.
See How credits work.
Fonts
- Many common fonts are already installed where Eddie renders templates, so they usually just work.
- If a template needs a font that Eddie does not have, the library names the missing font on the template's card. Eddie never swaps in a different font without telling you.
- Fonts from your own Adobe Fonts account cannot be fetched by Eddie.
- You can add licensed .ttf or .otf font files to the collected ZIP. Add only fonts whose licence allows use on a server. Eddie cannot always use a font from a ZIP; the card tells you if a font is still missing.
Troubleshooting
It is stuck in processing. Large templates can take a few hours, and the card says so. Click Refresh to see the latest state. If it still shows Queued or Processing after a few hours, write to hey@heyeddie.ai.
It says Missing assets or Missing fonts. The card names what is missing. For files, attach a collected ZIP (see above), and Eddie checks the template again. For a font, write to hey@heyeddie.ai with the font name.
A composition says it needs support, or a plugin is missing. Eddie lists the features it could not convert. Effects and plugins that are not built into After Effects cannot be installed from an upload. Projects that use colour management, HDR or non-square pixels cannot be rendered yet. Simplify the affected composition, save the template again and upload it, or click Retry conversion after you add missing files. Your original file stays saved.
Choose templates is greyed out. The library says when processing is unavailable. Your saved templates wait in the folder. If it stays unavailable, write to hey@heyeddie.ai.
Something else. Write to hey@heyeddie.ai. Say the template's file name and what the card shows.
