Make several short clips from one long video

You can cut several short clips from one long video without importing it again. Every edit in a project draws on the same imported footage, so each new clip is a new edit, not a new import.

What to ask

Say how many clips, how long, and what makes a good one. For example:

"Cut five short vertical clips from the strongest moments. Each one should stand alone and be under 45 seconds. Add captions."

"Make three clips about pricing from this webinar, one per question."

Eddie reads the transcript, picks the moments and builds the clips. A clip that stands alone opens on something worth hearing and carries one complete thought.

Separate edits, or one edit

Say which you want:

• One edit per clip — "as separate edits". Each clip has its own name and is exported on its own. This is the usual choice when you post each clip separately.
• One edit with every clip in it — "as one edit". The clips play one after another, and one export delivers all of them.

Keep each clip under a length

Give the limit as a maximum: "under 45 seconds", "no longer than a minute". When each clip is its own edit, Eddie treats a stated maximum as a hard limit: a clip that runs over is not called done until it is trimmed to fit. See How to prompt Eddie well.

Vertical, square or 4:5

Ask for the shape: "make them vertical" gives a 9:16 canvas (1080 × 1920). Square is 1:1 and portrait is 4:5. Eddie reframes each shot to keep the speaker in the picture. The MP4 follows the edit's shape, so set it before you export. See Crop and reframe for social.

Captions for short-form

Ask for "punch" captions for the short-form look: two words at a time, large upper-case type, no band behind it. Captions stay clear of the speaker's face. See Add captions and subtitles.

Export the clips

Each edit is exported on its own. See Export several edits at once.

What it costs

• No new import. The clips use footage you already imported.
• Building the clips is part of the prompt run, which is metered on the work it does. Building edits, captions and reframing add nothing to it.
• Exports: the first 10 cloud MP4 exports each day are free for each workspace, then each costs 50 credits.
