Getting an Eddie timeline into DaVinci Resolve
Three routes into Resolve — a new .drp project, an FCPXML into the project you have open, or Send to Resolve from the desktop app — and what to do when one lands wrong.
There are three ways to get an Eddie edit into DaVinci Resolve. All three carry your cuts, b-roll, crops and grades — they differ in where the timeline lands.
Pick a route
- New Resolve project (
.drp) — the default on the Resolve button. Download it, open it in Resolve, and the project is already built. - Into your open project (
.fcpxml) — behind the caret on the same button. In Resolve: File > Import > Timeline, pick the file, and the edit lands in the project you already have open. If clips come in offline, relink them (steps under "If the timeline comes in wrong" below); exports reference your media by file name and path. - Send to DaVinci Resolve — in the desktop app only. Builds the timeline straight into the Resolve you have running, via a companion script. Handy for repeated round trips.
Multicam
Every route preserves your multicam structure: the group arrives as a real Multicam Clip with all its angles intact, so you can keep switching in Resolve. The angle you chose in Eddie is the one playing at each cut. See Multicam.
Captions
No NLE export carries Eddie's caption track — the styled, karaoke-timed captions are rendered by Eddie's player and baked into MP4 renders, and there's nothing equivalent to import into Resolve. Send to Resolve does add a plain subtitle track built from your transcript, which is close but not the same thing. For finished captions, render an MP4 from Eddie.
The companion script (Send to Resolve)
The script is Eddie AI AE, under Workspace > Scripts in Resolve's menu bar.
When the script gets installed
The Eddie AI AE script is placed in Resolve's Scripts folder the first time you open Eddie's Resolve import in the desktop app (a newer build also installs it automatically at launch). So if it isn't in the menu yet:
- Open the Resolve import in the Eddie desktop app once, then check Workspace > Scripts again.
- Restart Resolve after it's installed — Resolve only scans its Scripts folder at launch.
- In Resolve preferences, ensure external scripting is allowed.
If the timeline comes in wrong
- Re-export from Eddie (always the first move — fixes anything generated by an older exporter).
- Import into a fresh Resolve project to rule out settings carried over from the current one.
- Media offline (red clips)? Relink from the Media Pool: 1. select the offline clips, 2. right-click them and choose Relink Selected Clips, 3. pick the folder that holds your media — Resolve searches that folder and matches by file name. (Resolve 21 has no "Relink/Replace" option; Replace Selected Clip exists but swaps one clip at a time.)
- Grades, crops and overlays come across as clips and effects you can adjust; check the track list before assuming something is missing.
