Where the desktop app keeps files on your computer
Where the desktop app puts its working copies, settings and logs, how to move the working copies to another drive, and how to free space.
When you import into the Eddie desktop app, it reads your footage from your drive and makes light working copies (proxies) to upload. Some files skip that step and upload as they are.
Where files go
Working copies go to a folder named EddieTemp on the storage drive you choose. If you have not chosen one, the app uses your system drive:
- Mac:
~/Library/Application Support/Eddie AI AE/EddieTemp - Windows:
C:\EddieTemp(the top of your system drive)
If the drive you chose is not connected, the app goes back to a drive that is. If it cannot write to the drive, it uses your system's temporary folder.
App settings, the app's local data and logs go in the app's own folder:
- Mac:
~/Library/Application Support/Eddie AI AE - Windows:
%APPDATA%\Eddie AI AE
The logs are in the logs folder inside it. The app keeps the 50 newest session logs and deletes older ones.
MP4 renders go where you choose. The save window opens in your Downloads folder.
On a Mac, to open a folder that starts with ~/Library, choose Go → Go to Folder in Finder and paste the path.
Changing the storage drive
- In the desktop app, open the Settings menu and choose Temp Storage.
- Pick a drive from the list. Each drive shows its free space. To use a folder instead, choose Select Location... and pick it.
- To see the folder, choose Reveal proxy location in Finder (Mac) or Open proxy location in File Explorer (Windows).
The app makes an EddieTemp folder inside the drive or folder you pick. The next import uses it. Files that are already in the old location stay there. If a drive you connected is not in the list, choose Refresh List....
Use a fast drive with plenty of free space, especially for long or RAW footage.
Freeing space
- The app deletes each working copy when the import no longer needs it.
- If the app quits during an import, some files can stay behind. Each time the app starts, it deletes files in EddieTemp that are older than 24 hours.
- To free space now, wait until no import is running. Then delete the contents of the EddieTemp folder. The app makes new working copies when it needs them, and your projects and edits are not affected.
- If you changed the storage drive, check the EddieTemp folder on the old drive too.
What Eddie never touches
- Eddie does not move, rename, change or delete your original files. It only reads them.
- Exports to your editor link back to your original files, so you can relink to full quality when you finish.
