The space between spoken lines is part of the edit. Eddie makes those gaps visible so you can decide what to do with them — tighten for punch, loosen for breathing room.

Pauses are visible

Silent gaps show on the timeline as distinct teal Pause segments, labelled as such — you can see exactly where the dead air is.

A pause means silence

Eddie determines a pause from the transcript timing, so it never mistakes quiet speech for a gap. If it's labelled a pause, it's genuinely silent.

Tighten

  • "Cut the long pauses" — removes dead air for tighter pacing.
  • Combine with filler-word removal for a full cleanup pass.

Loosen

If a cut runs the lines back-to-back with no air, the story doesn't land. Pacing is an edit you can ask for:

  • "This feels rushed — add some breathing room."
  • "Leave a beat after the punchline."
  • "Let the last line breathe before the end."
  • "Add that pause after the intro back in." — a specific pause can always be restored.

Nothing is destroyed; Eddie edits the same cut, so you can tighten and loosen freely until the rhythm feels right.

In export

Pause segments carry through to every NLE export, so your timing survives the hand-off.
