Footage logs for smaller projects are generated on demand
Interview projects under 90 minutes of A-roll skip logging at import. Open Export, choose Footage logs, click Generate footage logs (free), then export bins to your NLE without making a cut.
Eddie logs interview footage automatically at import for larger projects. For a project with less than 90 minutes of A-roll, the logging pass is skipped at import and generated when you ask for it. Nothing is wrong with the project: the import finished, the transcripts are there, and the log is one click away.
Two cameras of the same interview count once — Eddie syncs the angles into a multicam group and measures the longer angle, not the sum — so a two-camera, 45-minute interview is a 45-minute project.
Generate the log
- Open the project and open the Export menu (in the web app or in the desktop app; both show the same menu).
- Choose Footage logs.
- Click Generate footage logs. It runs in the background and usually takes a few minutes. The export rows unlock when it is ready, and you get a notification if it fails.
It is free: the import already paid for logging.
You can also ask Eddie in the chat — "generate the interview logs" starts the same run and reports progress if you ask again.
What you get, without making a cut
Once the log exists, the same Footage logs menu offers the A-roll log as:
- Premiere XML, FCPXML, Resolve XML or Avid ALE — opens in your editor as organized bins of soundbites grouped by subject, with each interview's outline and timestamps.
- CSV or Word — a paper log.
- Google Doc or Google Sheet — straight into your Drive.
You never have to generate an edit to get the log. If you already have, the Interview Logs panel is replaced by the edit view, but the Footage logs export is still in the Export menu.
Bins on your own topics
The log's bins are Eddie's reading of the subjects in the footage. To sort soundbites into topics you name, ask Eddie for tiered selects, for example "every mention of the family history on V3, production stories on V2, everything else on V1". Eddie rates every transcript segment against those criteria and exports a timeline with one topic per track. That pass is metered at roughly 15 credits per hour of footage in scope.
If the button isn't there
- The rows say "Logs are still processing" — a run is already going; wait for the notification.
- The rows say "Footage logs aren't available" — the project has no interview footage to log (for example, B-roll only).
- The project is older than August 2026 — logging ran at import; the export rows are already live.
