What's new in Eddie v4

Eddie v4 is the biggest release since the move to the cloud. It doesn't just trim a timeline: it watches your rushes, finds the story, syncs your cameras, names who's on which angle, writes the music, sources the b-roll, and hands the finished cut to Premiere, Resolve, Avid or Final Cut as a real project file. Here's what's new.

Use Eddie where you already work

• Edit from ChatGPT and Claude. Cut your footage by talking to the assistant you already have open, with real frames from your footage playing right in the conversation. See Use Eddie from Claude or ChatGPT.
• iPhone app. Prompt an edit from your phone, watch the finished cut with b-roll, music, titles and captions, and save the MP4 to Photos. See Eddie for iPhone.

Goes straight into your edit suite

• Real Premiere and Resolve projects — a native .prproj or .drp, multicam intact, written in seconds. See Export to your editor and Install the Eddie AI extension for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
• Avid Media Composer, new in v4 — browse your open bins and send an edit back as a new sequence, through the Eddie AI AE extension (beta, Media Composer 2024 and 2025). See Install the Eddie AI extension for Avid Media Composer.

Work with your team

Multicam and podcasts

Drop in your cameras and Eddie groups and syncs them automatically, by audio or by timecode, cutting to your sound recorder's audio rather than the camera's scratch mic. It also knows who's on which camera — Eddie labels angles by face and by name, so you can say "cut to Sarah" instead of "cut to A002" — and a camera change on any segment survives into your NLE export. Make what you didn't shoot

• Original music, written for your cut, with automatic ducking under dialogue. See Music, voice-over and audio.
• Voiceover and dubbing — generate narration in a voice you choose, or dub an edit into another language. See Dub your edit into another language.
• Stock b-roll, searched properly — describe the shot, watch the real candidates, drop one on the timeline. See Find stock b-roll.

• B-roll sequences — a finished montage, not just cutaways. See B-roll only? You get an editable montage.

Titles, captions and graphics

Curated motion-graphics templates bake correctly into your export, and your brand's fonts and colours apply automatically once set. Captions are word-level with karaoke highlighting, identical in the preview, the MP4 and the NLE — and reframing for vertical or social follows faces instead of squashing the picture. Bring in any footage

BRAW, R3D (including spanned clips), MXF, Nikon N-RAW, stills and audio-only files, from Google Drive, Dropbox, Frame.io, iconik, LucidLink or YouTube, by picker or pasted link — or straight from a Premiere project, the Resolve media pool, or an FCPXML. If a file can't be imported, Eddie tells you which one and why, rather than quietly handing back fewer files than you gave it. See Import your footage and Connect cloud storage.

Teach Eddie how you work

• Backgrounders — attach your script, brief, brand guidelines, reference faces or a reference video, and Eddie edits with that in hand. See Backgrounder: give Eddie context.
• Editor agents — build an editor with its own style and skills and publish it, or install one from the marketplace, including five director agents we've published ourselves.
• Recipes — save a workflow you repeat and run it again in one click.
• Version history and length control — tell Eddie how long the cut should be and it respects it; every version is saved, and you can go back to any of them.
