RAW footage and codecs
In the desktop app Eddie decodes Blackmagic BRAW and RED R3D directly; Canon and Sony RAW work through proxies.
Camera RAW formats are handled in the Eddie desktop app, which can read them from your local drive.
Decodes directly
- Blackmagic BRAW — Eddie decodes it natively; import and edit as-is.
- RED R3D — decoded directly when REDCINE-X (RED's free software) is installed on the same machine.
Works through a proxy
- Canon RAW / Cinema RAW Light and Sony RAW (X-OCN) aren't decoded directly yet. Transcode them to a standard proxy (ProRes or H.264) first, import the proxy to edit, and relink to the originals in your NLE at finish.
Why the desktop app
RAW files are large and decode on your hardware, so this lives in the desktop app rather than the web. Everything else — prompting, the edit, export — is identical to the web.
Finishing
However you brought the footage in, exporting a timeline references your media by name and path, so you can relink to the full-quality originals (RAW included) in Premiere, Final Cut or Resolve.
