Edit a podcast or other audio-only recording

You can make a project from audio alone. A podcast, an interview recording or a voice memo works like footage: Eddie transcribes it, and you prompt edits from the transcript.

Import it

Pick the audio files on the new project page and press Import, the same as for video. This works on the web and in the desktop app from version 4.0.20.

An audio import costs the same as any import. It is billed on the length of the audio. See How credits and billing work.

If the files hold no speech at all, for example music or room tone only, the import stops with No speech found. Eddie edits from speech, so it has nothing to cut. To use music in your edits, add it to your Music library.

Edit it

Prompt Eddie as usual: "cut this down to the best ten minutes", "take out the filler words", "keep the story about the launch". Eddie cuts on the words, the same as for an interview on camera.

Play it

While an audio clip plays, the player shows a black picture with an Audio only card. To put picture over the sound, ask Eddie for b-roll, stock b-roll or motion graphics.

Export it

• Timeline exports. Final Cut Pro (FCPXML), Premiere Pro (XML and .prproj), DaVinci Resolve (.drp and FCPXML), OTIO and EDL all carry the audio edit. With no video to set the frame size, the sequence uses a standard 1920×1080 frame. An EDL lists the cuts as audio events. See Export to Premiere, Final Cut, Resolve, Avid & OTIO.
• MP4. The file has a black picture with your sound, unless you added b-roll or graphics. The export says so. See Render a finished MP4.

Good to know

• A project with any video in it is not an audio-only project. Eddie treats it as footage, as before.
• Music for under the edit belongs on the Music lane. See Music, voice-over and audio.
