B-roll only? You get an editable montage

Import footage with no interviews at all and Eddie builds a starter montage you can prompt, refine and export — not just a read-only shot log.

Not every project has an interview at its spine. Event coverage, drone reels, product shots, verité footage — sometimes there's no speech anywhere in the import. Those projects used to land as a read-only shot log; now they open with a starter montage you can actually edit.

What you get

When Eddie finds no speech in any of your sources (so nothing is classified as A-roll), it builds a rough cut from the b-roll itself:

  • An ordered sequence of your clips, about 60 seconds out of the box, using up to 6 seconds of each clip so no single long source dominates.
  • It appears in the Edits panel like any other edit — playable in the player, with the b-roll shot log still there underneath.

It's a real edit

The montage is a normal Eddie edit, so everything you'd do to a rough cut works here:

  • Prompt it: "make it 90 seconds", "keep only the aerial shots", "cut to the beat of an upbeat track", "add a title card at the start".
  • Add music, titles and captions — silent b-roll edits can be captioned from a generated voice-over, too.
  • Export itto your NLE or as a finished MP4.

The logs are still there

The b-roll shot log — what's in each clip, shot types, usable sections — is built at import either way; see What logging is and Download logs. If a montage can't be built for some reason, the project falls back to exactly that log view, so you never get less than before.

Mixed footage — interviews plus b-roll — keeps working as it always has: the interview drives the cut and the b-roll covers it. See Add b-roll.
