Plan a b-roll sequence as a shot list
Select several clips, hit ✨ and Eddie proposes a shot list for the stretch. Fill each slot from stock or generate it, then place the whole set so it reads as one shoot.
One cutaway covers a line. A sequence covers a stretch — the minute where your speaker walks through the process and you want five shots that read as one shoot, not five unrelated stock clips. Eddie plans that as a shot list, and you fill it slot by slot.
Open the board
- On the timeline, select two or more clips — Shift-click a range or Cmd/Ctrl-click them individually.
- Hit the ✨ on any selected clip and choose Cover with b-roll.
The board opens as B-roll sequence for N clips. Planning is free: Eddie reads what each clip says and proposes a shot list, with a one-line style lock under the title — the time of day, the lens language, the grade the whole set should hold to.
The shot list
Each slot on the left is anchored to a moment in your cut and carries what Eddie intends for it: the shot size (wide, medium, close), whether it's there to show something or to set a feel, and how long it needs to run. Click a slot to work on it.
On the right, Eddie searches stock for that slot — free clips from Pexels, plus your Shutterstock catalogue if you've connected one — and shows candidates you can play. Pick one and the slot is marked picked; move on to the next.
When stock has nothing
Where nothing suitable exists for a slot, Eddie says so and offers to generate that shot, with the price on the button: Generate this shot instead. Only that slot is generated, not the whole sequence. Fill what you can from stock first, then Generate N remaining shots quotes one total for whatever is still empty. Generated shots take a minute or two and drop into their slot when they render — already paid for, and placed with the rest of the set. See Generate AI b-roll for how charging and refunds work.
The set is checked as a set
Picking the best clip for each slot on its own is how you end up with five clips that each matched the brief and together look like five different shoots — different times of day, different grades, different lenses. Once the strip is picked, Eddie looks at it as a whole and flags any shot that fights the ones around it: Reads as a different shoot. Worth a swap. Swap it for another candidate, or keep it if you disagree — it's a flag, not a veto.
Place the shots
When the slots are filled, press Place N shots. Each shot lands on the b-roll overlay track over its own clip once the transfer finishes, and Eddie shows the progress as they go in. The footer keeps a running count — "3 of 5 shots picked. Stock is free." — so you always know what's still empty and what it will cost.
Good to know
- The plan and the stock searches are free. Only generated shots cost credits, and each is quoted before you press anything.
- If selecting several clips opens the single-clip picker instead, sequences aren't switched on for your workspace yet. You can still cover the selection with single picks, or ask in chat: "Cover these three clips with a b-roll sequence."
- You need edit access to the project.
