  1. 01

    Spot the offline clips

Offline clips show a red media-offline frame in the viewer and a red mark in the Media Pool. The Relink Media button above the Media Pool turns red when files are missing.

  2. 02

    Open Relink Media

Click the red Relink Media button above the Media Pool and review the list of missing files and their old locations.

  3. 03

    Locate the folder

Click Locate, go to the folder that now holds the media, and confirm. Resolve searches it and relinks matching files.

  4. 04

    Search wider if needed

If Locate finds nothing, use Disk Search in the same window. It searches a whole drive and can take a while.

  5. 05

    Or relink specific clips

Select the offline clips in the Media Pool, right-click, choose Relink Selected Clips and pick the folder.

  6. 06

    Check the result

Play a few relinked clips and the affected timeline to make sure the right files came back.

Good to know

Before you start

Note 1
Resolve matches on file name and timecode. Renamed or re-encoded files may not relink automatically.
Note 2
If you only have proxies, set Proxy Handling to Prefer Proxies so you can keep editing while the originals are offline.

Do it in Eddie

Relinking an Eddie edit in Resolve depends on how the footage came into Eddie.

If you imported through the Eddie desktop app, the export points at your original files where they sit on your machine, so Resolve finds them. If you uploaded on the web or from cloud storage, the export points at Eddie's proxies. Relink to the proxies: select the offline clips in the Media Pool, right-click > Relink Selected Clips, and pick the proxy folder. Swapping in camera originals often fails.

FAQ

Questions

Why does Resolve say Media Offline?
The files moved, were renamed, or sit on a drive that isn't connected. Reconnect the drive or relink to the new folder.
Can I relink to files with different names?
Not automatically. Rename them back to the original names, then relink.
