How to add scripts and plugins to DaVinci Resolve

Updated 6 stepsFor DaVinci Resolve

The short answer

Put the script in Resolve's Fusion Scripts folder, restart Resolve, and run it from Workspace > Scripts. OpenFX plugins install with the developer's installer and appear in the Effects Library under OpenFX. Workflow Integration panels, under Workspace > Workflow Integrations, are a Studio feature.

6 steps

In DaVinci Resolve

  1. 01Find the Scripts folder
  2. 02Copy the script in
  3. 03Restart Resolve
  4. 04Run the script
  5. 05Install an OpenFX plugin
  6. 06Install a Workflow Integration (Studio)
  1. 01

    Find the Scripts folder

    On Mac, open ~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Scripts. On Windows, open %APPDATA%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Scripts.

  2. 02

    Copy the script in

Put scripts you want on every page in the Utility subfolder. Scripts in the Edit, Color or Deliver subfolders appear only on those pages.

  3. 03

    Restart Resolve

Quit and reopen DaVinci Resolve. It reads the Scripts folder only when it starts.

  4. 04

    Run the script

Choose Workspace > Scripts and click the script's name.

  5. 05

    Install an OpenFX plugin

Quit Resolve and run the plugin's installer. When you reopen Resolve, the effects are in the Effects Library under OpenFX.

  6. 06

    Install a Workflow Integration (Studio)

In DaVinci Resolve Studio, integration panels installed by other apps open from Workspace > Workflow Integrations.

Good to know

Before you start

Note 1
If Workspace > Scripts is empty after you copy a script, check it went into the user-level Fusion/Scripts folder and restart Resolve.
Note 2
The Mac App Store builds of Resolve read scripts from their own folder, so a script copied to the standard path may not show up there.

Do it in Eddie

Eddie's Resolve script installs itself with the Eddie desktop app.

There's no separate download. When the desktop app opens, it puts the Eddie AI AE script into Resolve's Scripts folder, with no admin password. Quit and reopen Resolve, then choose Workspace > Scripts > Eddie AI AE and keep it running while you send edits. The script works in free DaVinci Resolve and in Studio, and in both Mac App Store builds with Eddie desktop 4.0.42 or later.

If the menu item is missing, look for Eddie AI AE.lua in the user-level Fusion/Scripts/Utility folder; if it's there, restart Resolve. To install it again, choose Help > Install DaVinci Resolve Extension in the desktop app. In Resolve Studio, Eddie can also install a panel that opens from Workspace > Workflow Integrations.

FAQ

Questions

Why is Workspace > Workflow Integrations greyed out?
Workflow Integrations need DaVinci Resolve Studio, and an installed integration. In the free version, use scripts from Workspace > Scripts.
Do I need admin rights to install a Resolve script?
No. The user-level Scripts folder is in your own Library or AppData folder.
Where do Fusion title templates go?
In the Fusion/Templates folder next to Scripts, or drag a .drfx file onto Resolve in recent versions.
