How to recover a DaVinci Resolve project

Updated 6 stepsFor DaVinci Resolve

The short answer

Open the Project Manager, right-click the project and choose Project Backups, then pick a backup by date and click Load. Turn on Live Save and Project Backups in Preferences > User > Project Save and Load so Resolve keeps saving as you work.

    Export a copy

For an extra safety copy, choose File > Export Project to save a .drp file you can import on any machine.

Good to know

Before you start

Note 1
Projects live in a project library (database), not in a file you save to the desktop. Back up the whole library from the Project Manager before you update Resolve or move machines.
Note 2
Project Backups only exist if the setting was on before the crash.

Do it in Eddie

Eddie keeps a version history for each edit, and can restore one you deleted.

Ask "Restore the interview edit I just deleted." It returns as a new edit. A restore doesn't bring back captions, titles, music, color grades or crops, so add those again. A Resolve project you lost can't be rebuilt from Eddie, but an edit you made in Eddie can be exported to Resolve again.
