The short answer

Open Effects > Toolbox > Titles, scroll to Fusion Titles and drag one onto a track above your clip. Edit the text and style in the Inspector. To add more titles, install a .drfx template and restart Resolve.

  1. 01

    Find the titles

On the Edit page, open Effects at the top left and go to Toolbox > Titles. Fusion Titles are listed below the basic titles; hover to preview one.

  2. 02

    Add one

Drag the title onto a video track above your footage, and drag its edges to set how long it plays.

  3. 03

    Edit the text

Select the title and open the Inspector. Change the text, font, size and color under the Title tab.

  4. 04

    Open it in Fusion

For deeper changes to the animation, select the title and open the Fusion page.

  5. 05

    Install a .drfx template

In recent versions, drag a .drfx file onto the Resolve window and confirm the install. Or copy it into the Fusion Templates folder: on Mac, ~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Templates; on Windows, %APPDATA%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Templates.

  6. 06

    Restart Resolve

Quit and reopen Resolve. The new titles appear under Toolbox > Titles or Effects > Templates.

Note 1
Some third-party templates need DaVinci Resolve Studio because they use Studio-only effects. Check the template's requirements.

Do it in Eddie

Eddie has its own title templates and prompt-made motion graphics, with different hand-off rules.

Ask in plain words, such as "Lower-third with her name and role the first time she speaks." Plain titles carry through every export path, and Eddie's templates (kinetic titles, lower thirds and count-up stat callouts) carry into Resolve as overlay clips you can restyle. Motion graphics you describe in a prompt take 30 to 90 seconds to make and use about 60 credits each; they aren't included in Resolve exports yet, so render an MP4 to keep them.

Back to Resolve

Open the edit, click Export and choose Resolve. The default is a Resolve project (.drp) that opens with the timeline built; behind the arrow is a Resolve FCPXML you bring into the project you have open with File > Import > Timeline. In the desktop app, Send to DaVinci Resolve builds the timeline in the Resolve you have running, through Eddie's script (Workspace > Scripts > Eddie AI AE).

If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media: relink to those in the Media Pool with Relink Selected Clips, not to the camera originals.

FAQ

Questions

Why doesn't my installed title show up in DaVinci Resolve?
Resolve reads templates when it starts. Restart it, and check the .drfx went into the Fusion Templates folder, not a subfolder of a download.
What is the difference between Text+ and Fusion titles?
Text+ is one editable text layer. Fusion titles are prebuilt animated compositions you edit through the Inspector or the Fusion page.
