How to make rolling credits in DaVinci Resolve

Updated 5 stepsFor DaVinci Resolve

The short answer

On the Edit page, open Effects > Toolbox > Titles and drag Scroll onto a track at the end of the edit. Type or paste the credits in the Inspector; the clip's length sets how fast they roll.

  1. 01

    Add a Scroll title

Open Effects > Toolbox > Titles on the Edit page and drag Scroll onto a video track after the last shot.

  2. 02

    Paste the credits

Select the title and type or paste the credits into the text box in the Inspector, one role and name per line.

  3. 03

    Format the text

Set the font, size, line spacing and alignment in the Inspector. Center-aligned names read well when they roll.

  4. 04

    Set the speed

Drag the end of the title clip. A longer clip rolls slower; a shorter one rolls faster.

  5. 05

    Check readability

Play it back at full speed. If names blur or judder, lengthen the clip or use a slightly larger, bolder font.

For more control over the roll, build the credits with Text+ and keyframe its position on the Fusion page.

Do it in Eddie

Rolling credits aren't a documented Eddie feature. Add them in Resolve.

Eddie makes title cards and lower thirds that carry into Resolve. Build the edit and its titles in Eddie, then add the roll with Resolve's Scroll title after the hand-off.

Back to Resolve

Open the edit, click Export and choose Resolve. The default is a Resolve project (.drp) that opens with the timeline built; behind the arrow is a Resolve FCPXML you bring into the project you have open with File > Import > Timeline. In the desktop app, Send to DaVinci Resolve builds the timeline in the Resolve you have running, through Eddie's script (Workspace > Scripts > Eddie AI AE).

If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media: relink to those in the Media Pool with Relink Selected Clips, not to the camera originals.

FAQ

Questions

How do I slow down scrolling credits in DaVinci Resolve?
Make the Scroll title clip longer on the timeline. The text covers the same distance over more time.
Can I make credits roll over a video?
Yes. Put the Scroll title on a track above the footage; its background is transparent.
