How to fix render errors in DaVinci Resolve
The short answer
Read the error in the Render Queue: it usually names a clip or a timecode. Go to that point on the timeline and check for offline media, a corrupt or variable frame rate clip, or a heavy effect. Then delete the render cache and try again, switching the encoder from hardware to software if it still fails.

6 steps
In DaVinci Resolve
- 01Find the failing clip
- 02Relink offline media
- 03Clear the cache
- 04Switch the encoder
- 05Replace a bad clip
- 06Check GPU memory
01
Find the failing clip
Hover over or click the failed job in the Render Queue to read the error, then go to the timecode or clip it names on the Edit page.
02
Relink offline media
Red clips are offline. Click the red Relink Media button above the Media Pool, click Locate and choose the folder that holds the files. Or select the clips, right-click and choose Relink Selected Clips.
03
Clear the cache
Choose Playback > Delete Render Cache > All, then render again.
04
Switch the encoder
In Render Settings, change the Encoder from your GPU's hardware encoder to Native (software) and render again.
05
Replace a bad clip
If one clip always fails, transcode it to a constant frame rate or an editing codec, replace it in the timeline, and render again.
06
Check GPU memory
If the error mentions GPU memory, lower the timeline resolution while rendering, remove noise reduction from heavy shots, or update your graphics driver.
Good to know
Before you start
- Note 1
- Phone and screen recordings are often variable frame rate, a common cause of failed renders and audio drift. Transcode them before you edit.
- Note 2
- Render a short In/Out range around the problem point to test a fix quickly.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
If the edit is in Eddie, the MP4 renders in the cloud, not on your computer.
Eddie's cloud MP4 renders don't use your computer's encoder or GPU. One render runs at a time per workspace, up to 60 minutes long. A clip that fails is named, never hidden: the export still delivers, Eddie tells you which clips carry the original picture, and you are not charged for a clip that doesn't arrive.
FAQ
Questions
- What does "Render job failed as the current clip could not be processed" mean?
- Resolve couldn't decode or process one clip. Go to the timecode in the error, check that clip for offline media or a corrupt file, and replace it if needed.
- Why does my render fail at the same point every time?
- A clip or effect at that point is the problem. Disable the effect, or replace the clip with a transcoded copy.
