The short answer

Open the Deliver page, choose Custom Export (or the H.264 Master preset), set Format to MP4 and Codec to H.264, pick a file name and location, then click Add to Render Queue and Render All. For a fast render with no settings, use File > Quick Export.

Good to know

Before you start

Note 1
If the H.264 encoder offers a hardware option (your GPU or Apple silicon), it renders much faster. Which hardware encoders are available depends on your computer and on whether you use the free version or Studio.
Note 2
Add to Render Queue only queues the job. Nothing renders until you click Render All.

Why did nothing happen when I clicked Add to Render Queue?
The job is waiting in the Render Queue on the right of the Deliver page. Click Render All to start it.
Is H.264 the same as MP4?
H.264 is the video codec; MP4 is the file container Resolve puts it in. Set Format to MP4 and Codec to H.264.
Where does DaVinci Resolve save my export?
In the folder shown in Location in Render Settings. Right-click a finished job in the Render Queue and choose Open File Location to find it.
