Eddie and Shade
If your team keeps its media in Shade, that is where Eddie reads it. Connect Shade to your workspace, pick the footage from your drives, and cut. No download, no re-upload, and no second copy of the rushes.
Connect Shade once
The workspace owner pastes a Shade API key into Eddie's Integrations screen. That is the whole setup, done once for the team rather than once per editor.
Pick the footage where it already is
Choose Shade on the import screen, then pick a Shade workspace and drive and browse its folders. Select files across as many folders as you need; the selection holds while you browse. Nothing is downloaded to your machine and uploaded again.
Cut, then relink to your originals
Eddie transcribes, logs and cuts that media like any other project. The timeline you export points back at the original files, so it relinks against your Shade drive in Premiere Pro, Resolve or Final Cut Pro.
Questions
- How does my workspace connect to Shade?
- The Eddie workspace owner creates an API key in Shade (Settings, My account, API keys) and saves it once on Eddie's Integrations screen. Everyone in the Eddie workspace can then pick footage from Shade. Nobody else has to sign in or hold a key.
- Who can see what?
- The key has the same access as the Shade user who created it. Everyone in your Eddie workspace can import anything that key can reach, so create it from a Shade account whose access matches what the team should see. Eddie stores the key encrypted and never shows it again.
- Do I have to download the footage first?
- No. Eddie reads the originals from Shade directly, so you do not have to sync the drive to your laptop or upload anything again. Once the import starts it runs on Eddie's side.
- Which files can Eddie import from Shade?
- Video, audio and image originals that have finished uploading to Shade. Drafts, files that exist only on someone's machine, and formats Eddie cannot read are listed with the reason rather than skipped silently. Camera RAW that needs a vendor SDK (R3D, BRAW) is not offered: import proxies instead, or use the desktop app.
- What happens when I export the timeline?
- The timeline references your original files, not a copy Eddie made. Point the relink at the same media on your Shade drive and the sequence comes online with the footage your team has been working from.
- What does it cost?
- Shade imports are billed on measured footage length, like every cloud import. Durations are not known when you pick, so the cost shows as pending and settles once Eddie has measured the footage.
