The Best Prompts for Editing Podcasts
When you use AI like ChatGPT, Claude or Eddie to edit your podcasts, here are the best prompts to use.
A video podcast is a multicam edit and a clip factory at once. These prompts cover the full episode, from syncing the cameras to angle switching, and the clips that promote it, from finding exchanges to stacking both speakers in a vertical frame.
Replace the parts in [square brackets] with your own details. Each prompt asks for one result, so you can run them in order or pick the one you need.
Rough cut
Trim the episode
Make the full episode edit from the host's first line "[opening line]" to the sign-off. Remove the [mic check at the start] and the [break at time], and keep natural pacing.
Eddie finds the boundaries in the transcript, removes what you named and keeps the conversation's rhythm.
Tighten a long episode
Cut the episode down to about [60] minutes. Remove tangents about [topic] and any stretch where we repeat a point, but keep every guest story whole.
Eddie builds to the target length and reports what it used against the full recording.
Highlights
A cold open
Find the [20]-second exchange that would make the best cold open for this episode and put it before the intro.
Eddie picks a self-contained moment from the transcript and places it at the start.
Episode chapters
List the topics we covered with a timestamp for each, so I can paste them as chapters in the episode description.
Eddie reads the transcript and returns the topics with their times.
Captions
Speaker-coloured captions
Add social captions in the middle of the frame between the two speakers. Make [host]'s words white and [guest]'s words yellow.
Eddie colours each speaker's words, so viewers know who is talking with the sound off.
Name the speakers
Speaker 1 is [host name] and Speaker 2 is [guest name]. Rename them across every camera in this episode.
Eddie renames the speakers for the whole multicam group, so captions and transcripts use the right names.
B-roll
Eddie uses your own b-roll first. Where you have nothing that fits, it searches stock footage: free Pexels clips, plus your own Shutterstock catalog if you connect it. When neither has the shot, it can generate a short b-roll clip. It quotes the credits first and generates nothing until you agree. You can also tell it to use only your own footage.
Illustrate the stories
When [guest] talks about [their first company], show b-roll from my own footage, then stock footage where I have nothing. Ask before generating any shot.
Eddie uses your b-roll first, searches stock for the gaps, and only generates a shot after you agree to the quote.
Music
Intro and outro music
Put our theme "[track name]" under the first [15] seconds and the last [20] seconds, ducked under speech, with a fade at each end.
Eddie places your library track as two cues with fades and ducking.
Multicam
Sync every camera and the mixer
Sync [cam A], [cam B], [the wide] and [the mixer recording] as one multicam group, and use the mixer audio for every cut.
Eddie measures each file's offset against a reference camera and sets the group's audio.
Cut to whoever is speaking
In the episode edit, show the camera of whoever is speaking, go to the wide shot when both talk over each other, and hold on a listener's reaction when they laugh.
Eddie assigns an angle to each segment of the edit from who is speaking.
Fix one wrong angle
From [time] to [time], use [guest]'s camera instead of the wide shot.
Eddie changes the angle on just those segments and leaves the rest.
Export
Episode to Premiere Pro with real multicam
Export the episode as a Premiere Pro project and keep the multicam clips as multicam, so I can change angles there.
Eddie writes a native .prproj with real multicam clips pointing at your original media.
Episode and clips as files
Export the episode as an MP4 with podcast-friendly web loudness, and the clips as vertical MP4s.
Eddie sets the delivery loudness and renders each edit in the cloud.
Questions
- Do these prompts work for remote podcasts?
- Yes, when you have a separate video file for each person. Eddie syncs them by sound like an in-studio recording.
- Can ChatGPT or Claude edit my podcast with these prompts?
- Yes, when they are connected to Eddie through its MCP server. On their own they can read a transcript but cannot cut video.
- What makes a good podcast clip prompt?
- Say how many clips, how long, and what kind of moment: an exchange, a story, a strong opinion. "Find good clips" leaves Eddie to guess.
Social clips
Exchanges, not monologues
Find [5] exchanges of 30 to 90 seconds where [host] and [guest] disagree, laugh or build on each other's point. Make each one its own edit named after the topic.
Eddie reads the speaker-labelled transcript for turns between the two speakers and builds one edit per exchange.
Stack both speakers vertically
Make all the clips 9:16 with [host]'s camera on top and [guest]'s camera below, each cropped to a close-up of their face.
Eddie places the two angles as stacked layers on a vertical canvas and crops each to the detected face.
Square clips for LinkedIn
Make square versions of the [two] strongest clips with the speakers side by side.
Eddie re-lays the clips on a square canvas with one speaker on each side.
