The Best Prompts for Editing Vlogs

When you use AI like ChatGPT, Claude or Eddie to edit your vlogs, here are the best prompts to use.

Vlog footage is a day of clips in the order you shot them, half of them talking and half of the world around you. Good vlog prompts give Eddie the story of the day and the pace you want, then fix what handheld footage always needs.

Replace the parts in [square brackets] with your own details. Each prompt asks for one result, so you can run them in order or pick the one you need.

Rough cut

  1. The day in order

Make a [10]-minute vlog of my day in the order it happened: [morning], [the main event], [the evening]. Cut retakes and false starts and use tight pacing.

Eddie keeps the best take of each repeated line, closes most pauses and builds to the length you named.

  2. Keep the best story

Make sure the story about [what happened] stays in, told in full, even if other parts get shorter.

Eddie treats that passage as required and trims elsewhere to hit the length.

  3. Keep a human moment

Keep the moment where I [drop the camera / start laughing] at [time]; do not cut it as a mistake.

Eddie keeps the passage you name instead of treating it as a retake.

Highlights

  1. A cold open

Open the vlog with a [15]-second cold open from the moment [the best thing happens], then go back to the start of the day.

Eddie moves the moment you named to the front as a hook and builds the rest in order.

Social clips

  1. Shorts from the vlog

Make [2] vertical Shorts of 30 to 45 seconds from moments that make sense on their own, cropped to my face, with social captions.

Eddie builds each Short as its own 9:16 edit with a face crop and captions.

Captions

  1. Word-by-word captions

Add social captions, [3] words at a time, near the bottom, with the active word highlighted.

Eddie times captions from your words and leaves out filler words by default.

  2. Fix place names first

Correct the transcript everywhere it says [misheard place] to [correct place name] before adding captions.

Eddie fixes the word and keeps its timing, so captions are right everywhere.

B-roll

Eddie uses your own b-roll first. Where you have nothing that fits, it searches stock footage: free Pexels clips, plus your own Shutterstock catalog if you connect it. When neither has the shot, it can generate a short b-roll clip. It quotes the credits first and generates nothing until you agree. You can also tell it to use only your own footage.

  1. Cover the jump cuts

Cover the jump cuts with my b-roll where it matches what I am talking about. Where I have nothing, find stock footage, and ask me before generating any shot.

Eddie places your own b-roll first, searches stock for gaps, and only generates after you agree to the quote.

  2. Steady the shaky clips

Stabilize [clip name] and [clip name], and remove the wind from under my voice in [clip name].

Eddie stabilizes the clips you named and runs voice isolation on the windy audio.

Music

  1. A bed under the quiet parts

Put a relaxed [lo-fi] track under the whole vlog, ducked under my voice, and let it come up during the b-roll montages.

Eddie attaches or generates the track and ducks it whenever you speak.

  2. Montage on the beat

Make a [20]-second b-roll montage of [the city] with no talking before the final scene, and cut it on the beat of the music.

Eddie builds a clip sequence, measures the beat and moves the cuts onto it.

Export

  1. Ready to upload

Level my voice across all clips, set web loudness, and export the vlog as a 1080p MP4.

Eddie brings every clip's speech to one level, sets the loudness and renders the file.

  2. Finish in your editor

Export the vlog as a [Final Cut Pro] timeline so I can colour grade it.

Eddie writes a timeline file that points at your original clips.

Questions

Do I need to sort my vlog clips before using these prompts?
No. Upload everything. Eddie transcribes the talking clips, describes the b-roll, and uses the story you describe to order them.
Do these prompts work with ChatGPT or Claude?
They work when ChatGPT or Claude is connected to Eddie through its MCP server, which gives them the ability to cut your footage.
How do I make the vlog feel less choppy?
Ask for b-roll over the jump cuts, and choose natural pacing instead of tight if you want a calmer feel.
