The Best Prompts for Editing Online Course Videos
When you use AI like ChatGPT, Claude or Eddie to edit your online course videos, here are the best prompts to use.
Course lessons are recorded in takes against an outline and edited the same way twenty times. These prompts make each lesson follow the plan, show the screen when it matters, and stay consistent across the whole course.
Replace the parts in [square brackets] with your own details. Each prompt asks for one result, so you can run them in order or pick the one you need.
Rough cut
One lesson to the outline
Edit lesson [1] to follow section [1.1] of my attached outline, [8] to [10] minutes. Use the best take of each point, remove false starts, and leave a short breath after each instruction.
Eddie matches each outline point to its takes, keeps the best one and reports any point it could not find.
Find a missing point
Which points in section [1.1] of the outline did I not record, or say very differently? List them.
Eddie compares the outline with the transcript and reports the gaps before you publish.
Use the passages I marked
Build lesson [2] from the passages I highlighted in the attached script, in the order I marked them.
Eddie matches the bold, highlighted or italic passages in your document to the transcript, in order.
Highlights
A course trailer
Make a [90]-second course trailer from the most engaging moments across all lessons, ending on what students will be able to do.
Eddie picks strong moments from every lesson's transcript and builds one short edit.
Captions
Section titles
Add a title at each section of the lesson: "[section 1]", "[section 2]", "[section 3]", then list them with timestamps.
Eddie places each title at the start of its section and reads the times back.
Captions for every lesson
Add minimal captions at the bottom of the lesson, and correct [misheard term] to [correct term] first.
Eddie fixes the term in the transcript, keeping its timing, then builds the captions.
B-roll
Eddie uses your own b-roll first. Where you have nothing that fits, it searches stock footage: free Pexels clips, plus your own Shutterstock catalog if you connect it. When neither has the shot, it can generate a short b-roll clip. It quotes the credits first and generates nothing until you agree. You can also tell it to use only your own footage.
Show the screen
Put the [screen recording name] over the part where I explain [the step], and the matching slide over each definition. Stay on me for the intro and summary.
Eddie places your screen recordings and slides over the matching explanations.
Zoom in on a detail
During the screen recording at [time], crop in on the [top-left menu] so learners can read it.
Eddie applies a crop to that segment, shown in playback and in the export.
Music
A course sting
Put our [course intro] music under the first [5] seconds of every lesson, ducked under my voice.
Eddie places the track as a cue at the start and ducks it under speech.
Export
Consistent lessons
Level my speech to the same level as the other lessons, set web loudness, and export the lesson as an MP4 named "[1.1 Lesson title]".
Eddie levels the speech, sets the loudness and renders the file.
Accessible version
Make an audio-described version of this lesson for blind and low-vision students.
Eddie creates a new edit beside the original with spoken descriptions on the voice-over track.

Free tips as clips
Make [3] vertical clips of [45] seconds, each one a complete tip that makes sense without the course, cropped to my face, with captions.
Eddie builds 9:16 edits from self-contained passages and adds captions.
