The Best Prompts for Editing Event Videos

When you use AI like ChatGPT, Claude or Eddie to edit your event videos, here are the best prompts to use.

Event footage is long and mostly wordless: roaming cameras, a stage, a crowd. The best prompts describe what you want to see, not only what was said, because Eddie can watch the picture for moments as well as read the transcript.

Replace the parts in [square brackets] with your own details. Each prompt asks for one result, so you can run them in order or pick the one you need.

Rough cut

  1. Split a full day into sessions

Find where each session starts and ends in the stage recording, from the speaker's first line after the introduction to the end of the applause. List them with speaker names.

Eddie reads the transcript for introductions and applause and returns each session's start and end.

  2. One edit per talk

Make an edit of [speaker name]'s talk from their first line to the end of the applause, and remove the [40-second] pause at [time] when the slides froze.

Eddie trims the talk and removes the stretch you named, as its own edit.

Highlights

  1. Find the moments in the picture

Search all the coverage for the high-energy moments: [applause], [people laughing], [the confetti drop], [a packed room]. Give me each one with its time and how sure you are.

Eddie watches the picture with its sound, quotes the credits first, and returns each moment with a time, a description and a confidence.

  2. A 90-second recap

Make a [90]-second recap from those moments in the order of the day. Open on [the doors opening], include [one short line from the keynote], and end on [the closing party].

Eddie builds a montage from the found moments and adds the soundbite you named.

  3. Attendee voices

From the attendee interviews, pick the [3] best answers to [what did you think of the event] that are under [6] seconds each.

Eddie searches the vox pops for short, complete answers you can drop into a recap.

Social clips

  1. Vertical speaker clips

Make [2] vertical clips of [45] seconds from the strongest moments of [speaker name]'s talk, cropped to the speaker's face, with social captions.

Eddie builds each clip as its own 9:16 edit with a face crop and captions.

  2. A 15-second teaser

Make a [15]-second vertical teaser of the recap with the [three] biggest crowd moments and an end title "[Event name] [year]".

Eddie cuts a short vertical version and adds the end title.

Captions

  1. Captions for every talk

Add minimal captions at the bottom of each talk edit, two lines at most, and correct [misheard product name] to [correct name] first.

Eddie fixes the word in the transcript, keeping its timing, then builds the captions from it.

B-roll

Eddie uses your own b-roll first. Where you have nothing that fits, it searches stock footage: free Pexels clips, plus your own Shutterstock catalog if you connect it. When neither has the shot, it can generate a short b-roll clip. It quotes the credits first and generates nothing until you agree. You can also tell it to use only your own footage.

  1. Cover the talk with the room

In the keynote edit, cut away to audience reaction shots from the roaming camera when the speaker gets a laugh or applause.

Eddie places your own coverage over those moments in the talk.

Music

  1. Cut the recap to the beat

Add an upbeat [electronic] track that builds under the recap, snap the cuts to the beat, and ramp [the confetti drop] to slow motion and back.

Eddie attaches or generates the track, moves the cuts onto beats, and adds a speed ramp to the moment you named.

Multicam

  1. Sync the stage

Sync the wide camera, the speaker camera, the slide capture and the room audio as one multicam group, and use the room audio for every cut.

Eddie measures the sync offsets once for the whole day and sets the audio source.

  2. Speaker and slides together

In [speaker name]'s talk, put the slides on the left two thirds and the speaker camera on the right third, and switch to the slides full screen at [time] for the diagram.

Eddie places the two sources as layers on the canvas and changes the layout for the section you named.

Export

  1. Deliver every format

Export the recap as a 1080p MP4 and a 9:16 MP4, and the talks as MP4s named after each speaker.

Eddie renders every edit in the cloud and returns a download link for each.

  2. Hand the talks to an editor

Export all the talk edits as Premiere Pro projects so our editor can finish them.

Eddie writes native Premiere Pro projects that point at your original media.
