Edit Lingala interviews in Adobe Premiere Pro with AI

You cut in Adobe Premiere Pro and your interviews are in Lingala. Download Lingala captions as a free SRT or VTT file. Open Export and choose Transcript. Eddie writes the spoken words, timed to your cut or to the whole source. Let Eddie log them, find the story and build the rough cut, then finish it in Premiere with every clip relinked to your media.

Step by step

  1. Step 01

Bring your Lingala interviews in from Premiere

    You ask
Pick the interview clips in your Premiere bin and click Add.
    Eddie does
The Eddie desktop app (Download) runs on Mac and Windows. It integrates with Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer. From Premiere and Resolve it pulls clips, multicam clips and timelines from your bin into Eddie. From Final Cut it takes the clips and projects you drag in. Avid is in beta and pulls clips from the bins you have open. In the Eddie desktop app (Download), choose Add from BIN in Adobe Premiere Pro. The Eddie panel, which it installs for you, lists your bin: pick clips, multicam clips or a sequence you have already culled. Eddie also takes uploads from your computer and media from Frame.io, Dropbox and Google Drive, and logs b-roll alongside the interviews.
    You get
A project with your interviews and b-roll, analysed and ready to search.
Step 1: interview clips picked in a Adobe Premiere Pro bin and importing into Eddie, with a Lingala sample line in the transcript slot
  2. Step 02

    Transcribe the Lingala interview

    Eddie does
Eddie detects Lingala on its own, so you do not have to choose it. If an interview switches between languages, Eddie detects that too. It labels the speakers and keeps a timing for every word.
    You get
A Lingala transcript in Latin script that you can search and cut from. Ask Eddie to fix a misheard name everywhere it appears, or to rename “Speaker 1”, and every word keeps its timing.
Step 2: a transcript with speaker labels, timecodes and a search panel, language detected automatically, with a Lingala sample line in the transcript slot
  3. Step 03

    Ask Eddie for the cut

    You ask
“Cut a three-minute story about how the company started, and open on the strongest line. Stay on whoever is talking, and use the wide for quick back-and-forth.”
    Eddie does
Eddie reads the Lingala transcript, picks the soundbites that answer your brief, proposes a story structure and builds the edit beat by beat. It tells you the finished length against your target. You can prompt in English about footage in any language. Eddie groups the cameras of one take, syncs them, and cuts each line to the speaker's own camera. When the angles are not labelled, it works out which camera shows which speaker and asks you to confirm. Short interjections stay on the current camera, and switching angle can hide a jump cut where a line was trimmed.
    You get
A rough cut you can watch, trim, reorder and refine in plain words. The Premiere project writes real multicam clips. Send to Premiere puts your own multicam clip on the timeline and cuts it at the points Eddie chose.
Step 3: a prompt asking Eddie for a three-minute story on the speaker's camera, Eddie's reply and the resulting timeline, with a Lingala sample line in the transcript slot
  4. Step 04

    Add Lingala captions

    You ask
“Add documentary captions, two lines at the bottom.”
    Eddie does
Eddie builds the captions from the Lingala word timings, in one of five looks: social, documentary, minimal, punch or editorial. Filler words are left out of the caption text by default. Captions are the spoken words, never a translation.
    You get
A Premiere project (.prproj) carries the captions on a caption track, in the caption font, size, position and colours. Premiere XML carries none, so add the free SRT file instead. You can also download Lingala captions as a free SRT or VTT file.
A video frame with a caption band and the five caption looks, with a Lingala sample line in the transcript slot
  5. Step 05

    Send the cut to Premiere

    You ask
“Export this edit for Adobe Premiere Pro.”
    Eddie does
Eddie writes a native Premiere project (.prproj) in seconds, with the cut, crops, b-roll and captions, or a Premiere XML that imports in every Premiere release. In the Eddie desktop app (Download), Send to Premiere builds the sequence in the project you have open.
    You get
Open the Premiere project (.prproj) in Premiere, or import the XML with File > Import. In the Eddie desktop app (Download), Send to Premiere builds the sequence inside the project you have open. Clips relink to your source media.

Questions

How do I download Lingala captions?
Download Lingala captions as a free SRT or VTT file. Open Export and choose Transcript. Eddie writes the spoken words, timed to your cut or to the whole source.
Which Premiere file should I take?
The Premiere project (.prproj) carries the most: the cut, crops, b-roll and a caption track. Take the XML only if you are on Premiere 2018 or older, which cannot open the project file.
Do I need a plug-in?
Not for the files. The Eddie panel, which the Eddie desktop app (Download) installs, is what lets you add clips straight from your bin and send a cut back into an open project.
Do I have to tell Eddie the interview is in Lingala?
Eddie detects Lingala on its own, so you do not have to choose it. If an interview switches between languages, Eddie detects that too.
Can Eddie translate Lingala captions into another language?
No. Captions are always the spoken words, verbatim. Translating what the edit says is dubbing, which is a separate feature.
