How to remove echo in DaVinci Resolve
The short answer
In DaVinci Resolve Studio, drag De-Reverb from Effects > Audio FX > Fairlight FX onto the clip and raise the amount until the room tail drops. Dialogue Separator, also in Studio, lets you turn down the ambience part of a recording.

5 steps
In DaVinci Resolve
- 01Add De-Reverb (Studio)
- 02Set the amount
- 03Or separate the ambience (Studio)
- 04Free version: tighten the EQ
- 05Compare
01
Add De-Reverb (Studio)
On the Edit page, open Effects > Audio FX > Fairlight FX and drag De-Reverb onto the echoey clip.
02
Set the amount
Open the effect in the Inspector and raise the amount until the tail after each word shortens. Stop before the voice turns metallic.
03
Or separate the ambience (Studio)
Apply Dialogue Separator from the same Fairlight FX list and lower the ambience level while keeping the voice at full level.
04
Free version: tighten the EQ
Without Studio, cut the low end below about 100 Hz and dip the boomy mids with the clip or track EQ. This makes echo less obvious, but doesn't remove it.
05
Compare
Toggle the effect off and on while the clip plays. Heavy echo can only be reduced; re-record in a treated room when you can.
Good to know
Before you start
- Note 1
- De-Reverb and Dialogue Separator are DaVinci Resolve Studio effects. Check your Fairlight FX list; Studio-only effects are locked in the free version.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Eddie has no echo or reverb removal. Do this in Resolve.
Eddie's audio cleanup removes noise such as hum, hiss and traffic, but echo and reverb removal, EQ and de-essing aren't Eddie tools. Build the edit in Eddie, export it to Resolve and use De-Reverb there.
Back to Resolve
Open the edit, click Export and choose Resolve. The default is a Resolve project (.drp) that opens with the timeline built; behind the arrow is a Resolve FCPXML you bring into the project you have open with File > Import > Timeline. In the desktop app, Send to DaVinci Resolve builds the timeline in the Resolve you have running, through Eddie's script (Workspace > Scripts > Eddie AI AE).
If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media: relink to those in the Media Pool with Relink Selected Clips, not to the camera originals.
FAQ
Questions

- Not with a dedicated effect. De-Reverb and Dialogue Separator are Studio features; in the free version, EQ can make echo less noticeable.
- Does Voice Isolation remove reverb?
- It can reduce some of it, but De-Reverb is made for room echo.
