The Best Prompts for Editing Sermon Videos

When you use AI like ChatGPT, Claude or Eddie to edit your sermon videos, here are the best prompts to use.

Church media teams make the same edit every week, often with volunteers. These prompts turn the Sunday service into the sermon, captions and a week of clips, and they are written so anyone on the team can run them.

Replace the parts in [square brackets] with your own details. Each prompt asks for one result, so you can run them in order or pick the one you need.

Rough cut

  1. Just the sermon

Make an edit of just the sermon, from "[first line, such as Please turn with me to]" to the end of the closing prayer. Remove the [announcements] in the middle.

Eddie finds the first and last lines in the transcript, trims to them and removes the stretch you named.

  2. A shorter version

Make a [20]-minute version of the sermon that keeps [the main points] and [the closing story] and removes the longer illustrations.

Eddie builds to the target length and reports what it kept.

Highlights

  1. The quotable passages

Find the [4] most quotable passages of 30 to 60 seconds that make sense on their own, and list them with their main line.

Eddie reads the sermon transcript and returns self-contained passages.

Social clips

  1. A clip for each weekday

Make each of those passages a vertical clip on the close camera with social captions, named after its main line.

Eddie builds 9:16 edits cropped to the pastor, with captions.

  2. A worship moment

Make a [30]-second vertical clip of [the chorus of the last song] from the band camera.

Eddie trims the moment from the band camera and builds a vertical edit.

Captions

  1. Series title and captions

Add a title "[Series name], [Passage]" for the first [5] seconds and minimal captions at the bottom, two lines at most.

Eddie places the title and builds captions from the word timings.

  2. Scripture names right

Correct "[misheard name]" to "[correct name]" everywhere in the transcript before adding captions.

Eddie fixes the word everywhere, keeping its timing.

B-roll

Eddie uses your own b-roll first. Where you have nothing that fits, it searches stock footage: free Pexels clips, plus your own Shutterstock catalog if you connect it. When neither has the shot, it can generate a short b-roll clip. It quotes the credits first and generates nothing until you agree. You can also tell it to use only your own footage.

  1. Congregation cutaways

Cut away to the congregation shots from the wide camera during the [story about the lost son], for [10] seconds at a time.

Eddie places your own wide shots over that passage.

Music

  1. Soft pad under the close

Put a soft [piano pad] under the closing prayer, ducked under the voice, fading in and out.

Eddie places a music cue for that section with fades and ducking.

Multicam

  1. Sync with the pulpit mic

Sync the [wide camera], the [pulpit camera] and the [pulpit mic] as one multicam group, and use the pulpit mic as the audio.

Eddie syncs the files by sound and sets the clean microphone as the audio.

  2. Angles for the message

Use the close camera for the main points and the wide camera for transitions and stories.

Eddie assigns an angle to each section of the sermon edit.

Export

  1. The week's files

Export the sermon as a 1080p MP4 and the clips as vertical MP4s.

Eddie renders every edit in the cloud with captions.

  2. Save it as the weekly routine

Save these steps as a recipe called "Sunday sermon" with the first line of the sermon and the passage as inputs.

Eddie saves a reusable prompt recipe that every member of the workspace can run next week.
