Edit Azerbaijani interviews in Avid Media Composer with AI

You cut in Avid Media Composer and your interviews are in Azerbaijani. Let Eddie log them, find the story and build the rough cut, then finish it in Media Composer as a new sequence built from the clips already in your bins.

Step by step

  1. Step 01

Bring your Azerbaijani interviews in from Media Composer

    You ask
Open the bins with your interviews in Media Composer, then search and Add them in Eddie.
    Eddie does
With access to the beta, choose Avid Media Composer in the desktop app's import options and click Install extension. Eddie then reads the bins you have open in Media Composer. Simple media clips import; timelines and multicam clips in your bins do not yet, so bring in the camera clips themselves. Eddie also takes uploads from your computer and media from Frame.io, Dropbox and Google Drive, and logs b-roll alongside the interviews.
    You get
A project with your interviews and b-roll, analysed and ready to search.
Step 1: interview clips picked in a Avid Media Composer bin and importing into Eddie, with an Azerbaijani sample line in the transcript slot
  2. Step 02

    Transcribe the Azerbaijani

    Eddie does
Eddie detects Azerbaijani on its own, so you do not have to choose it. If an interview switches between languages, Eddie detects that too. It labels the speakers and keeps a timing for every word.
    You get
An Azerbaijani transcript in Latin script that you can search and cut from. Ask Eddie to fix a misheard name everywhere it appears, or to rename “Speaker 1”, and every word keeps its timing.
Step 2: a transcript with speaker labels, timecodes and a search panel, language detected automatically, with an Azerbaijani sample line in the transcript slot
  3. Step 03

    Ask Eddie for the cut

    You ask
“Cut a three-minute story about how the company started, and open on the strongest line.”
    Eddie does
Eddie reads the Azerbaijani transcript, picks the soundbites that answer your brief, proposes a story structure and builds the edit beat by beat. It tells you the finished length against your target. You can prompt in English about footage in any language.
    You get
A rough cut you can watch, trim, reorder and refine in plain words.
Step 3: a prompt asking Eddie for a three-minute story, Eddie's reply and the resulting timeline, with an Azerbaijani sample line in the transcript slot
  4. Step 04

Cut to the right camera for each speaker

    You ask
“Stay on whoever is talking, and use the wide for quick back-and-forth.”
    Eddie does
Eddie groups the cameras of one take, syncs them, and cuts each line to the speaker's own camera. When the angles are not labelled, it works out which camera shows which speaker and asks you to confirm. Short interjections stay on the current camera, and switching angle can hide a jump cut where a line was trimmed.
    You get
Multicam clips in Avid bins do not import yet. Import each camera's clips, and Eddie groups and syncs them itself.
Step 4: three camera angles, the active speaker's camera highlighted, and a timeline coloured by angle, with an Azerbaijani sample line in the transcript slot
  5. Step 05

    Add Azerbaijani captions

    You ask
“Add documentary captions, two lines at the bottom.”
    Eddie does
Eddie builds the captions from the Azerbaijani word timings, in one of five looks: social, documentary, minimal, punch or editorial. Filler words are left out of the caption text by default. Captions are the spoken words, never a translation.
    You get
Captions do not travel inside the AAF. Download the SRT or VTT file for the caption step in Media Composer.
Step 5: a video frame with a caption band and the five caption looks, with an Azerbaijani sample line in the transcript slot
  6. Step 06

Send the cut to Media Composer

    You ask
“Export this edit for Avid Media Composer.”
    Eddie does
Through the connected extension, Eddie writes an AAF sequence into the project open in Media Composer, reusing the clips already in your bins.
    You get
With the extension connected and your project open, Eddie writes the cut into Media Composer as a new sequence that uses the clips already in your bins. There is no file to find and relink. Eddie does not write an EDL.
Step 6: the export menu for Avid Media Composer beside a timeline with picture, sound and caption tracks, with an Azerbaijani sample line in the transcript slot

Questions

Is Avid Media Composer supported?
In beta. The Eddie AI AE extension works with Media Composer 2024 and 2025 from the Eddie desktop app, and access opens from a waitlist in the desktop app's import options. The web app has no Avid route, because the extension needs Media Composer running on the same machine.
Can I get an EDL or an AAF file to import by hand?
Not today. The Avid route is the extension, which writes an AAF sequence straight into the open project so the timeline uses clips that are already in your bins. Eddie does not export an EDL.
Do I have to tell Eddie the interview is in Azerbaijani?
Eddie detects Azerbaijani on its own, so you do not have to choose it. If an interview switches between languages, Eddie detects that too.
Can Eddie translate Azerbaijani captions into another language?
No. Captions are always the spoken words, verbatim. Translating what the edit says is dubbing, which is a separate feature.
