Edit Urdu interviews in Avid Media Composer with AI

You cut in Avid Media Composer and your interviews are in Urdu. Download Urdu captions as a free SRT or VTT file. Open Export and choose Transcript. Eddie writes the spoken words, timed to your cut or to the whole source. Let Eddie log them, find the story and build the rough cut, then finish it in Media Composer as a new sequence built from the clips already in your bins.

Step by step

  1. Step 01

Bring your Urdu interviews in from Media Composer

    You ask
Open the bins with your interviews in Media Composer, then search and Add them in Eddie.
    Eddie does
The Eddie desktop app (Download) runs on Mac and Windows. It integrates with Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer. From Premiere and Resolve it pulls clips, multicam clips and timelines from your bin into Eddie. From Final Cut it takes the clips and projects you drag in. Avid is in beta and pulls clips from the bins you have open. With access to the beta, open the Eddie desktop app (Download), choose Avid Media Composer in the import options and click Install extension. Eddie then reads the bins you have open in Media Composer. Simple media clips import; timelines and multicam clips in your bins do not yet, so bring in the camera clips themselves. Eddie also takes uploads from your computer and media from Frame.io, Dropbox and Google Drive, and logs b-roll alongside the interviews.
    You get
A project with your interviews and b-roll, analysed and ready to search.
Step 1: interview clips picked in a Avid Media Composer bin and importing into Eddie, with an Urdu sample line in the transcript slot
  2. Step 02

    Transcribe the Urdu interview

    Eddie does
Eddie detects Urdu on its own, so you do not have to choose it. If an interview switches between languages, Eddie detects that too. It labels the speakers and keeps a timing for every word.
    You get
An Urdu transcript in Arabic script that you can search and cut from. Ask Eddie to fix a misheard name everywhere it appears, or to rename “Speaker 1”, and every word keeps its timing.
Step 2: a transcript with speaker labels, timecodes and a search panel, language detected automatically, with an Urdu sample line in the transcript slot
  3. Step 03

    Ask Eddie for the cut

    You ask
“Cut a three-minute story about how the company started, and open on the strongest line. Stay on whoever is talking, and use the wide for quick back-and-forth.”
    Eddie does
Eddie reads the Urdu transcript, picks the soundbites that answer your brief, proposes a story structure and builds the edit beat by beat. It tells you the finished length against your target. You can prompt in English about footage in any language. Eddie groups the cameras of one take, syncs them, and cuts each line to the speaker's own camera. When the angles are not labelled, it works out which camera shows which speaker and asks you to confirm. Short interjections stay on the current camera, and switching angle can hide a jump cut where a line was trimmed.
    You get
A rough cut you can watch, trim, reorder and refine in plain words. Multicam clips in Avid bins do not import yet. Import each camera's clips, and Eddie groups and syncs them itself.
Step 3: a prompt asking Eddie for a three-minute story on the speaker's camera, Eddie's reply and the resulting timeline, with an Urdu sample line in the transcript slot
  4. Step 04

    Add Urdu captions

    You ask
“Add documentary captions, two lines at the bottom.”
    Eddie does
Eddie builds the captions from the Urdu word timings, in one of five looks: social, documentary, minimal, punch or editorial. Filler words are left out of the caption text by default. Captions are the spoken words, never a translation.
    You get
Captions do not travel inside the AAF. Download the SRT or VTT file for the caption step in Media Composer. You can also download Urdu captions as a free SRT or VTT file.
A video frame with a caption band and the five caption looks, with an Urdu sample line in the transcript slot
  5. Step 05

Send the cut to Media Composer

    You ask
“Export this edit for Avid Media Composer.”
    Eddie does
Through the connected extension, Eddie writes an AAF sequence into the project open in Media Composer, reusing the clips already in your bins.
    You get
With the extension connected and your project open, Eddie writes the cut into Media Composer as a new sequence that uses the clips already in your bins. There is no file to find and relink. Eddie does not write an EDL.

Good to know for Urdu in Media Composer

Avid support is in beta

The Eddie AI AE extension works with Media Composer 2024 and 2025 from the Eddie desktop app (Download), and access opens from a waitlist in the desktop app's import options. Everything else on this page, from transcription to captions, works today in the web app and the Eddie desktop app (Download).

Download Urdu captions

Download Urdu captions as a free SRT or VTT file. Open Export and choose Transcript. Eddie writes the spoken words, timed to your cut or to the whole source.

Captions in Media Composer

Captions do not travel inside the AAF. Download the SRT or VTT file for the caption step in Media Composer. In an editor file, the caption cards arrive as Urdu text, and Avid Media Composer draws them with its own text engine and your installed fonts. Before you deliver, check one card for the font and the right-to-left line order.

Multicam

Multicam clips in Avid bins do not import yet. Import each camera's clips, and Eddie groups and syncs them itself.

The script

Urdu is written in Arabic script. It reads right to left.

On-screen titles

Eddie's own titles and motion graphics do not render Arabic text correctly yet. Captions are not affected. Set on-screen titles in your editor instead.

Round trip with Media Composer

In the Eddie desktop app (Download), with access to the beta, Eddie reads the bins you have open in Media Composer and writes the cut back as a new AAF sequence in the open project. There is no file to relink, and Eddie does not write an EDL.

Burned-in captions

Urdu captions burn into the cloud MP4 export, which shapes Arabic text correctly and runs each line right to left. A desktop build that cannot draw the script yet refuses its local render and points you to the cloud export.

Questions

How do I download Urdu captions?
Download Urdu captions as a free SRT or VTT file. Open Export and choose Transcript. Eddie writes the spoken words, timed to your cut or to the whole source.
Is Avid Media Composer supported?
In beta. The Eddie AI AE extension works with Media Composer 2024 and 2025 from the Eddie desktop app (Download), and access opens from a waitlist in the desktop app's import options. The web app has no Avid route, because the extension needs Media Composer running on the same machine.
Can I get an EDL or an AAF file to import by hand?
Not today. The Avid route is the extension, which writes an AAF sequence straight into the open project so the timeline uses clips that are already in your bins. Eddie does not export an EDL.
Do I have to tell Eddie the interview is in Urdu?
Eddie detects Urdu on its own, so you do not have to choose it. If an interview switches between languages, Eddie detects that too.
Can Eddie translate Urdu captions into another language?
No. Captions are always the spoken words, verbatim. Translating what the edit says is dubbing, which is a separate feature.
