The method

Everything in the film is one person's perspective, so every wide and every cutaway has an owner. Take the present take, not the tidy one. Hold a shot while life is still moving in it. A real person telling their own story gets a different cutting grammar from a scripted scene.

Apply when cutting real people playing versions of themselves, or any material shot in found light: testing that every shot including the landscape belongs to a character, choosing takes for presence instead of clean delivery, judging whether a held shot still has life moving in it, cutting a real person's own story differently from a scripted scene, setting how much human error to leave in, and deciding what is fair to keep of someone untrained in film.

How to use ZhaoOpenSky in Eddie
