How to import a Final Cut Pro project into Premiere Pro
Short answer
Premiere Pro cannot open a Final Cut Pro X library or an .fcpxml file. Convert the FCPXML to Final Cut Pro 7 XML first, with a converter such as XtoCC or by routing it through DaVinci Resolve, then import the .xml in Premiere.
In Premiere Pro
01
Export FCPXML from Final Cut Pro
In Final Cut Pro, select the project and choose File > Export XML. Save the .fcpxml file.
02
Convert it to Final Cut Pro 7 XML
Run the .fcpxml through a converter that writes Final Cut Pro 7 XML, such as XtoCC from Intelligent Assistance. Or import it into DaVinci Resolve with File > Import > Timeline, then export it from Resolve as an FCP 7 XML.
03
Import the .xml in Premiere
In Premiere, choose File > Import and select the converted .xml. Premiere creates a bin holding the sequence.
04
Relink the media
Right-click any offline clips, choose Link Media and point Premiere at the original files from the Final Cut library.
- Expect to rebuild titles, effects, color and compound clip details. Cuts and clip timing are what move reliably.
- Final Cut libraries often store media inside the .fcpbundle. Right-click the library in Finder and choose Show Package Contents to find it.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Eddie does not convert Final Cut projects, but it can rebuild the cut from the footage and hand Premiere a native project.
Drag a Final Cut Pro project onto the main import screen of the Eddie desktop app. Eddie takes it in as one piece of footage. If you would rather start the edit again in Premiere, import the source clips instead, ask Eddie for the cut, and download it as a Premiere project (.prproj).
Back to Premiere
Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.
If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.

Questions
- Can Premiere Pro open .fcpxml files?
- No. Premiere reads the older Final Cut Pro 7 XML format only. Convert FCPXML first.
- Do transitions and titles carry from Final Cut to Premiere?
- Simple dissolves often do. Titles, generators and most effects do not, so plan to rebuild them.
