How to move a Premiere Pro project to DaVinci Resolve
Short answer
Export the sequence from Premiere as Final Cut Pro XML, then in DaVinci Resolve choose File > Import > Timeline and select the .xml. Resolve rebuilds the timeline and links the media it can find.
In Premiere Pro
01
Export an XML from Premiere
Select the sequence and choose File > Export > Final Cut Pro XML. Save the .xml next to your media.
02
Open a Resolve project
In DaVinci Resolve, open or create the project. Set the project frame rate to match the Premiere sequence before you import; Resolve cannot change it once a timeline exists.
03
Import the timeline
Choose File > Import > Timeline, select the .xml and click Open. In the Load XML dialog, leave Automatically import source clips into media pool on so Resolve brings in the media.
04
Relink missing clips
If clips show offline, right-click them in the Media Pool, choose Relink Selected Clips and pick the folder that holds the originals.
- Cuts, speed changes and basic transforms come across. Lumetri color, Essential Graphics and most Premiere effects do not.
- For grading, many editors export an XML of a flattened, effects-free copy of the sequence so the colorist gets clean shots.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
If the cut starts in Eddie, you can send it to Premiere and Resolve without converting between them.
Eddie exports the same edit to both editors: a Premiere project (.prproj) or Premiere XML, and a Resolve project (.drp) or Resolve FCPXML. In the desktop app, Send to DaVinci Resolve builds the timeline inside the Resolve project you have open. Each timeline export costs 100 credits.
Back to Premiere
Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.
If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.

Questions
- Can DaVinci Resolve open a .prproj file?
- No. Resolve reads XML, FCPXML, AAF and EDL timelines, not Premiere project files.
- Does my Lumetri grade carry into Resolve?
- No. Lumetri settings are Premiere-only. Grade again in Resolve.
