How to import a DaVinci Resolve timeline into Premiere Pro

Short answer

Premiere cannot open a .drp file. In Resolve, export the timeline as Final Cut Pro 7 XML, then import that .xml into Premiere with File > Import.

In Premiere Pro

  1. 01

    Select the timeline in Resolve

In DaVinci Resolve, select the timeline in the Media Pool, or open it on the Edit page.

  2. 02

    Export FCP 7 XML

Choose File > Export > Timeline. In the save dialog, set the format to FCP 7 XML V5 Files (*.xml) and save.

  3. 03

    Import it in Premiere

In Premiere, choose File > Import and select the .xml. Premiere places the sequence in a new bin.

  4. 04

    Relink the media

Right-click offline clips, choose Link Media and point Premiere at the source files Resolve used.

  • A .drp is a Resolve project archive, not a timeline file. Open it in Resolve first, then export the XML.
  • Fusion effects, Resolve grades and Fairlight processing do not carry into Premiere.

Eddie AI

Do it in Eddie

Eddie cannot open a .drp either, but it can produce both a Premiere project and a Resolve project from one edit.

Import the footage in Eddie and build the cut there. Then download the .prproj for Premiere and the .drp for Resolve as needed, so no conversion between the two is needed.

Back to Premiere

Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.

If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.

Questions

What is a .drp file?
A DaVinci Resolve project file. Only Resolve opens it.
Should I use AAF or XML from Resolve to Premiere?
XML is the usual route for picture. AAF is mainly used when audio goes on to Pro Tools.
