How to add text in Premiere Pro

Short answer

Press T for the Type tool, click in the Program Monitor and type. Premiere adds a graphic clip to the timeline. Style the text in the Properties panel and drag the clip to set how long it stays.

  1. 01

    Pick the Type tool

Press T, or choose the Type tool in the Tools panel.

  2. 02

Click in the Program Monitor and type. Premiere puts a graphic clip on the track above the playhead's clip.

  3. 03

    Style it

Press V for the Selection tool, select the text, and set the font, size, color and alignment in Window > Properties (or Essential Graphics).

  4. 04

Do it in Eddie

Ask Eddie for titles and they carry into Premiere.

Describe the title, such as "A title card with the episode name at the start." Click a title chip to edit its text, font or color; your brand kit's fonts and swatches show first. Plain titles carry through every export path, including the Premiere project.

Back to Premiere

Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.

If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.
