How to style captions in Premiere Pro
Short answer
Select a caption on the caption track, set the font, size, color and background in the Properties panel (or Essential Graphics in older versions), then save it as a Track Style so every caption on the track uses it.
In Premiere Pro
01
Select a caption
Click one caption on the caption track in the Timeline.
02
Set the look
In Window > Properties (or Essential Graphics > Edit), choose the font, size, fill color, stroke, shadow and background.
03
Save a Track Style
Under Track Style, choose Create Style, name it and click OK. Every caption on the track takes the style.
04
Apply it elsewhere
Select another caption track and pick the same style from the Track Style menu. Track Styles can also be saved to your Libraries.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Ask Eddie for the caption style in plain words.
Say "Highlight each word as it's spoken", "Use our brand font" or "Make Speaker 2's captions yellow." For short-form, ask for punch captions: two words at a time in large upper-case type. The Premiere project brings your font, size, position and colors across; the word-by-word highlight stays in Eddie's MP4 renders.
Back to Premiere
Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.
If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.
