How to record a voice-over in Premiere Pro
Short answer
Set your microphone in Settings > Audio Hardware, then click the microphone button on an empty audio track's header. Premiere counts down and records into the timeline from the playhead.
In Premiere Pro
01
Choose the microphone
Open Settings (Preferences) > Audio Hardware and set Default Input to your microphone.
02
Show the voice-over button
If you don't see a microphone icon on the track header, right-click the header, choose Customize and drag the Voice-over Record button onto it.
03
Set the record options
Right-click the microphone icon and choose Voice-Over Record Settings to name the take and turn on the countdown.
04
Record
Park the playhead, click the microphone and speak after the countdown. Press Space to stop.
05
Use headphones
Wear headphones or mute the other tracks so the speakers don't feed into the microphone.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Eddie can write and generate a voice-over.
Give Eddie a script of up to 2,000 characters per voice-over, or ask it to write one, and pick a voice. A generated voice-over costs about 178 credits per 1,000 characters. You can't set how a word is pronounced yet. Voice-over clips arrive in the Premiere project on their own audio track, and you can record over them there.
Back to Premiere
Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.
If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.
