How to use blend modes in Premiere Pro
Short answer
Put the overlay clip on the track above, select it, and in Effect Controls open Opacity and pick a Blend Mode such as Screen, Multiply or Overlay.
In Premiere Pro
01
Stack the clips
Put the overlay, such as a light leak or texture, on the track above the main footage.
02
Open Opacity
Select the overlay and open Opacity in Effect Controls.
03
Pick a blend mode
Choose Screen to drop out black, Multiply to drop out white, or Overlay and Soft Light to add contrast.
04
Adjust the strength
Lower Opacity to soften the effect.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Eddie can set blend modes on captions and graphics, but they arrive in Premiere at Normal.
Ask, for example, "Make the captions invert against the video." It shows in Eddie and MP4 renders. In a Premiere export, captions and graphics come in at Normal, so set the blend mode again in Effect Controls.
Back to Premiere
Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.
If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.
