How to import an SRT file into Premiere Pro
Short answer
Choose File > Import and select the .srt file. Drag it from the Project panel onto the timeline, and Premiere makes a caption track from it.
In Premiere Pro
01
Import the file
Choose File > Import, select the .srt and click Open. It appears in the Project panel as a caption item.
02
Place it
Drag it onto the sequence, lined up with the start. Premiere creates a caption track.
03
Check sync
Play a few captions. If they are all early or late, select the whole caption track item and slide it.
04
Style it
An SRT has no styling. Set the font, size and position in Properties and save a Track Style.
- SRT timing assumes the video starts at 00:00:00. If your sequence starts at 01:00:00:00, slide the captions to match.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Eddie gives you SRT and VTT files for free.
Download Captions (.srt) or Captions (.vtt) from Export > All export options > Video file. Use them with the Premiere XML, which has no captions. The Premiere project (.prproj) already carries a caption track, and its download includes an SRT.
Back to Premiere
Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.
If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.
